With its price advantage, will the 7-seater Suzuki Jimny have enough appeal to beat the iconic off-road SUV, the Toyota Land Cruiser?
The Suzuki Jimny is currently available in two versions on the market: the 3-door and the 5-door. The 5-door version has only been distributed in recent years, and in the Southeast Asian region it was released in mid-February 2024.
According to that, the 3-door version of the Suzuki Jimny has a modest length of 3.48 meters, a wheelbase length of 2.25 meters, and a luggage compartment volume of 85 liters. Meanwhile, the 5-door version has a length of 3.98 meters. So when a Jimny version with the same dimensions as the Land Cruiser (4.92 meters long), with three rows of seats and seven seating positions, appears on the market, will it be able to create appeal?
Suzuki Jimny 7-seater sketch
If the Suzuki Jimny 7-seater does indeed come on the market, one area that the manufacturer needs to change in this version is to upgrade its transmission. Currently, the Suzuki Jimny on the market uses a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a power output of 105 horsepower and a maximum torque of 134 Nm. It has a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission, combined with a 2WD drivetrain with a manually lockable 4WD system known as AllGrip Pro.
Compared to the iconic off-road SUV, the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Suzuki Jimny 7-seater will have an advantage in terms of price. However, it must also be said that the equipment on the Suzuki Jimny will be more modest compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser, but it will still meet the basic needs of users. It is predicted that these two models will have a price difference of double the amount, which is $80,000 (~1.96 billion VND) with $40,000 (~981.3 million VND), and it is difficult to predict which model will be hotter in this race.
