VinFast made its first appearance at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) with an impressive booth that attracted a large number of visitors. The booth showcased the scale and unique style of VinFast with the message “Unlocking Green Life”.
At the exhibition, VinFast introduced its electric car ecosystem for the first time, featuring the VF e34, VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, VF 9 models.
During the exhibition opening ceremony, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his delegation visited VinFast’s booth, signed their names on the VinFast VF 5 car, and experienced the vehicles. Prior to that, on January 13, during his state visit to Vietnam, President Widodo visited the VinFast factory in Hai Phong and stated that he would facilitate VinFast to complete the necessary procedures for investment, production, and business in the Indonesian market.
The 2023 Miss International Indonesia, Farhana Nariswari, also expressed her admiration for VinFast’s electric cars, especially their strong and sporty yet gentle and exquisite designs.
Most visitors were impressed by the stylish and glamorous look of VinFast’s electric cars. “VinFast’s lineup has attractive designs with a touch of American and European styles, diverse and eye-catching colors, which differentiates them from other Asian electric car brands that have outdated designs. I think VinFast cars are especially suitable for young consumers,” said Jason Andhika Syarief, an automotive expert from CVT Indonesia.
The VF 6 and VF 7 models received high praise for their “attractive, modern, and sporty appearances that leave a strong impression”. The minimalist yet eye-catching interior design with a large center screen also received positive feedback from many visitors.
Similarly, the VF 5 and VF e34 models are expected to have great potential in the Indonesian and Southeast Asian markets, especially due to their agility and flexibility in crowded urban areas and affordable prices for a wide range of customers. “Entering the Indonesian market with affordable products like the VF 5 will be the formula for VinFast’s success,” commented automotive expert Rockford Pojono from LugNutz Auto Junkie.
In addition to the impressive design and technical specifications of the electric cars, exhibition visitors also highly appreciated VinFast for quickly offering right-hand drive versions. “I was truly surprised when VinFast promptly provided right-hand drive models for the Indonesian market, especially since the company uses left-hand drive in Vietnam and other markets. It shows the determination and seriousness of VinFast’s entry into the Indonesian market. I can’t wait to experience these vehicles,” shared Saleha Simorangkir from Jakarta.
During the exhibition, VinFast officially signed a Letter of Intent for cooperation with the first five dealerships in Indonesia, laying the foundation for its market development journey in the most populous country in the region. “Indonesian consumers are particularly interested in product quality, pricing, and after-sales services. These are all VinFast’s special strengths. Therefore, I believe that many Indonesians will choose VinFast as their preferred brand,” said Hartono Kurrniawan, representative of PT Bevos Auto Mandiri dealership.
Indonesia has the largest new car market in the ASEAN region in the first six months of 2023, according to the ASEAN Automotive Federation. Moreover, the Indonesian government has set early plans for the electrification of transportation with strong promotion policies, making it a potential electric car market for VinFast. This is especially true as the Vietnamese brand has made a big name for itself on the global market.
VinFast has also announced a long-term investment plan of at least $1.2 billion in Indonesia. In the initial phase, the company will distribute imported cars from Vietnam. Simultaneously, VinFast will build an electric car manufacturing plant in Indonesia with a capacity of up to 50,000 units per year and a localization target of 40%.
The Indonesia International Motor Show is one of the two largest auto shows in Southeast Asia, held from February 15 to 25, 2024 in Jakarta. VinFast’s grand debut at the exhibition marks an important milestone for the company’s market expansion in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. With what VinFast has shown during the early days of the exhibition, the VinFast booth promises to continue being one of the hottest highlights in the days to come.
