The Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have been renamed to EX40 and EC40 respectively while also upgrading their engine power and improving throttle response.

Recently, Volvo announced that the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have been renamed to EX40 and EC40. In addition, the entire lineup of upcoming electric and hybrid models from the Swedish brand will no longer have the “Recharge” suffix in their names. The automaker stated that this change will make it easier for customers to understand and remember the names of the cars, while also aligning with the naming conventions of other electric models. Therefore, Volvo’s electric vehicle lineup now includes the EX30, EX40, EC40, EX90, and EM90.

The EX40 and EC40 have also received powertrain upgrades. Specifically, the dual-motor version of these two models will now have an additional 34 horsepower, bringing the total power output to 436 horsepower, while also adjusting the software to enhance throttle response. In certain markets, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge models sold last year will also receive similar upgrades through OTA updates.

In addition, the XC40, EX40, and EC40 will be offered in a Black Edition trim, similar to the XC60. True to its name, this special edition features an exclusive Onyx Black exterior paint, combined with 21-inch black-painted alloy wheels and glossy black accents. Inside, the Black Edition models come standard with fabric or leather seats in jet black. Furthermore, the infotainment system in these models also integrates advanced features from Google.

Despite the electric vehicle market not developing as expected, leading many automakers to shift their electrification goals, Volvo remains committed to becoming an all-electric car brand by 2030. Last year, electric cars accounted for 16% of Volvo’s sales revenue, a significant increase of 70% compared to 2022. In the coming year, Volvo’s electric vehicle market share will continue to expand with the introduction of new models.
