Blue cars racing to reduce prices in the new year

After the end-of-year promotions, many car manufacturers continue to offer new discounts for the upcoming Lunar New Year. Among them, electric and hybrid vehicles are also part of the price reduction race.

Deep discounts on electric mini cars and hybrid cars

Recently, Wuling dealers have been offering a discount of 40 million VND for all versions of their electric mini car. Specifically, the Standard 1 version is now priced at 199 million VND, Standard 2 at 225 million VND, Upgraded 1 at 215 million VND, and Upgraded 2 at 239 million VND.

Since its launch in the Vietnamese market, the Wuling Hongguang MiniEV has undergone several price adjustments, starting with a 5 million VND discount, then 10 million VND, and 15 million VND. This is considered the biggest price drop for this model, making the Wuling MiniEV equivalent in price to a motorbike.

However, according to a survey by Tri Thuc – Znews, this discount may not be applied uniformly at all dealers. Contacting a dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, a salesperson mentioned that this particular dealership only offers a discount of 30-35 million VND for the Wuling MiniEV electric car. However, customers will still receive genuine accessories worth 5-10 million VND as a gift.

Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is also being promoted by dealers to clear out inventory from 2023. Previously in December 2023, Suzuki dealers reduced prices for hybrid models by 120 to 130 million VND, attracting the attention of many customers.

At the beginning of this year, the promotion for this model has been increased to a discount of 140 million VND. Specifically, according to Tri Thuc – Znews, Ms. Kim V. (Ho Chi Minh City), an employee at a Suzuki dealership, stated that customers who place an order for the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid and pay the full amount in January will receive a direct cash discount and genuine accessories, including a vehicle maintenance voucher.

“Customers who buy the Ertiga Hybrid will receive a cash discount and gifts including insurance and one-year vehicle maintenance. The total value of the promotion is about 140 million VND. However, if customers make a quick decision to purchase, we will offer an additional discount from our own personal funds,” added Ms. Kim V.

Since the end of 2023, Nissan dealers have also heavily discounted the Kicks, a B-segment CUV imported from Thailand, to clear out inventory. However, this is a dealer-specific program depending on the quantity of vehicles in stock.

Specifically, a salesperson at a Nissan dealership in Hanoi said that the standard E version of the Nissan Kicks, priced at 789 million VND, is now sold out. Meanwhile, the higher-end V variant, originally priced at 858 million VND, has been reduced by 170 million VND, bringing the post-discount price down to 688 million VND.

However, when contacting another Nissan dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, it was mentioned that the Nissan Kicks standard V version is currently sold for 700 million VND. However, the inventory there is limited to just one white unit.

Honda CR-V Hybrid and Toyota Innova Cross Hybrid still in high demand

In contrast to the discounted models mentioned above, some newly launched models at the end of the year are unexpectedly in high demand. Specifically, the Honda CR-V e:HEV Rs Hybrid and the Toyota Innova Cross Hybrid.

Since the beginning of Q3/2023, some Honda dealers quickly “suggested” that customers pay an additional amount of around 50 million VND to receive early delivery. By December 2023, this additional cost had decreased to only 20-40 million VND for the white and red colors.

At the beginning of this year, the additional cost has almost disappeared at many dealerships; however, the CR-V Hybrid is still experiencing a shortage. According to a salesperson, if customers place a deposit to purchase the Honda CR-V in January, it will be difficult for the dealership to deliver the vehicle before the Lunar New Year due to the unstable supply of imported cars.

“Currently, the showroom only has one white CR-V Hybrid, while the demand is still high. Therefore, to ensure getting a car in time for the Lunar New Year, customers should buy immediately instead of waiting for new stock because the Honda CR-V Hybrid is still overloaded with pre-orders,” suggested the salesperson.

Similarly, the Toyota Innova Cross Hybrid is also in high demand despite being on the market for a while. A salesperson at a Toyota dealership in Tan Binh also mentioned that the Hybrid version is currently not available, so customers who want to purchase must sign a commitment and cannot determine the exact delivery time.

“The Hybrid version is imported, so the dealership cannot actively control the quantity. If customers want to get their car quickly, they can purchase it together with accessory packages to ensure receiving the vehicle before the Lunar New Year,” added the salesperson.

The Vietnamese green car market is increasingly offering a wide range of choices, from affordable to luxury models. This year promises to bring even more new options for consumers, especially from Chinese car brands.
