According to the sales results announced by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and TC Motor, the Vietnamese four-wheeler market witnessed a general decline in the first month of 2024. In the list of the top 10 best-selling products, there were no longer statistics of over 3,000 cars sold, but only 2 models achieved sales figures exceeding 1,000 units.
The top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in January 2024.
Claiming the number 1 spot in the top-selling cars is no longer the Toyota Vios but the Mitsubishi Xpander. Compared to the previous month of December, this popular MPV saw a decline in sales of 54%.
Meanwhile, the sales of the Toyota Vios in January decreased by a staggering 78%, reaching 653 units. This result not only caused Vios to lose its leading position in the market but also allowed the Hyundai Accent to surpass it and take the number 1 spot in the B-segment sedan ranking.
Occupying the second position is the Ford Ranger with a 40% decline in sales, continuing to dominate the pickup truck segment. Following closely is the Hyundai Accent in third place, experiencing a nearly 67% decline compared to December 2023.
The fourth position belongs to the Mazda CX-5, which saw a 60% decrease in sales compared to the previous month. Nevertheless, this Japanese model continues to be the best-selling product in the C-segment crossover category.
The fifth spot in the list of the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in January 2024 belongs to the Honda HR-V. This is a rare occasion where this B-segment SUV enters the top 10 best-selling cars in the market. HR-V is also the only product on the list that achieved growth in sales with a total of 801 units sold, making it the best-selling SUV in the B-segment in January.
In addition to the HR-V, the Kia Sonet and Seltos also make a return to the top-selling cars, ranking 7th and 9th, respectively. Both models recorded a decline in sales.
At the 6th position in the top 10 is the Ford Everest. Despite a 47% decrease in sales compared to the previous month, this model still maintains its position as the number 1 SUV in the D-segment. Lastly, the Honda City “closes the list” with 482 units sold in January, a decrease of nearly 68%.
The models that disappeared from the list of the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in January 2024 include the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Veloz Cross, and Yaris Cross. Based on the aforementioned list, it can be seen that Vietnamese customers’ preferences still focus on Japanese cars (5 models), locally-assembled cars (6 models), and B-segment mainstream cars (6 models).
