Similar to other segments of the automotive industry, C-segment SUV models also experienced a consistent decline in sales in January 2024. This was due to the overall market conditions coinciding with the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday.

Sales of C-Segment SUVs in January 2024 (in units)

Mazda CX-5: 807 units

Amidst the declining sales in the overall market, the Mazda CX-5 only sold 807 units in the first month of the new year. This represents a 60.6% decrease compared to December 2023. However, the Mazda CX-5 still maintains its position as the top-selling model in the segment, distancing itself from its competitors.

Mazda CX-5

Furthermore, the Mazda CX-5 also ranks among the top 10 best-selling cars in January 2024, securing the 4th position after the Mitsubishi Xpander, Ford Ranger, and Hyundai Accent. This partially demonstrates the appeal of this Japanese model.

In 2023, the Mazda CX-5 was the best-selling model in the C-segment SUV segment with a cumulative sales volume of 16,808 units. It is highly likely that this model will continue its growth momentum in the current year.

The allure of the Mazda CX-5 stems from its eye-catching design, comprehensive features, and particularly attractive price ranging from 759 to 999 million VND. It is currently one of the most affordable C-segment SUV models in the Vietnamese market.

Ford Territory: 390 units

The 2nd position in the C-segment SUV segment in January 2024 is once again held by the Ford Territory with a sales volume of 390 units. Compared to the previous month, this model witnessed a decline of 66%.

Ford Territory

Ford Territory in Vietnam currently offers 3 versions with prices ranging from 822 to 954 million VND. In addition to its reasonable price, this SUV from the United States boasts a commanding exterior, spacious interior, and comprehensive convenience and safety features.

The power of the Ford Territory comes from its 4-cylinder, turbocharged EcoBoost gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5L, generating a maximum output of 160 horsepower and a peak torque of 248 Nm. It is coupled with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Honda CR-V: 270 units

The 3rd-ranked model in the C-segment SUV segment is the Honda CR-V with a sales volume of 270 units. This indicates a substantial decline in sales, reaching 73%.

Honda CR-V

However, it is still remarkable for the Honda CR-V to secure the 3rd position in the C-segment SUV segment, as this model is priced higher than its competitors, ranging from 1.109 to 1.3 billion VND. Nevertheless, the new generation of this model has seen significant upgrades in terms of design, features, and engines.

Under the hood of the Honda CR-V 2024 in Vietnam, there are 2 engine options. The first is a 4-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5L, delivering a maximum output of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 240 Nm, coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The second option is a hybrid powertrain, comprising a 4-cylinder, 2.0L gasoline engine with 146 horsepower. The engine is combined with 2 electric motors producing a total output of 181 horsepower. In total, the hybrid variant has 204 horsepower and a peak torque of 335 Nm.

Hyundai Tucson: 209 units

Similar to its competitors mentioned above, the Hyundai Tucson also had an unsuccessful month in terms of sales with a decrease of 81.7% to 209 units. This decline has caused this Korean model to drop to the 4th position in the C-segment SUV segment.

Hyundai Tucson

In addition to the general market trend, there is another reason contributing to the decline in sales of the Hyundai Tucson, which is its price. Specifically, in December 2023, the price of this model was adjusted to increase from 799 to 959 million VND, depending on the version. The previous price range was from 769 to 899 million VND.

The Hyundai Tucson is one of the longest wheelbase models in the C-segment. Alongside its standout exterior design, spacious interior, and abundant features, this Korean model offers 3 engine options.

The first option is a 4-cylinder, 2.0L Smartstream gasoline engine with a maximum output of 156 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 2.0L Smartstream diesel engine with a maximum output of 184 horsepower and a peak torque of 416 Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The last option is a 1.6L Smartstream turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 180 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm. This engine is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Tucson is available with either front-wheel drive or 4-wheel HTRAC, depending on the version.

Kia Sportage: 113 units

In January 2024, the Kia Sportage improved its ranking and surpassed its competitor, the Mitsubishi Outlander. The sales volume of this Korean model reached 113 units, representing a decline of 56.8%. This is the model with the lowest sales decline rate in the C-segment SUV segment.

Kia Sportage

Consistent with Kia’s tradition in Vietnam, the Sportage offers a wide range of versions with prices ranging from 799 million to 1.019 billion VND. Additionally, the model also offers 3 engine options, providing customers with various choices.

The first option is a 1.6L gasoline engine with a maximum output of 178 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The second option is a 2.0L diesel engine with a maximum output of 184 horsepower and a peak torque of 416 Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The last option is a 2.0L gasoline engine with respective power figures of 154 horsepower and 192 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi Outlander: 73 units

The Mitsubishi Outlander only achieved a sales volume of 73 units in January 2024, representing an 81.7% decline compared to the previous month. Consequently, this Japanese model has dropped to the last position in the C-segment SUV segment.

Mitsubishi Outlander

Within this segment, the Mitsubishi Outlander has not received significant upgrades in terms of design, features, or safety equipment for a long time. Furthermore, the convenience and safety features of this model are inferior to its competitors in the same segment. Hence, it is not surprising that this model has not achieved high sales volume.

In February 2024, Mitsubishi Outlander is currently offering a 50% discount on registration fee, 1 year of vehicle insurance, and a 360-degree panoramic camera for 2023-produced vehicles. Meanwhile, for 2024-produced vehicles, customers will receive a 360-degree panoramic camera.

The price of the Mitsubishi Outlander currently ranges from 825 to 950 million VND.
