Introduced on February 15 in Japan, the Mitsubishi Triton 2024 has received over 1,300 orders, exceeding the initial monthly sales target of 200 units by 6 times on its first day of launch.
Almost 90% of the total orders are for the top-of-the-line GSR version, equivalent to the Athlete variant sold in the Southeast Asian region. The remaining orders are for the lower-range GLS variant. Both variants come with the Super Select 4WD II drivetrain, allowing drivers to use the Triton as a full-time 4WD vehicle.
Thai-produced pickup trucks are becoming a popular lifestyle choice in Japan. Unlike Southeast Asia, pickup trucks in Japan are typically purchased by affluent owners who want to stand out from the crowd of mini kei-car vehicles that fill the streets of Japan.
In Japan, the Mitsubishi Triton 2024 starts at 4.98 million Yen, more expensive than the Toyota Hilux GR Sport (priced at 4.3 million Yen) and Hilux Rocco Edition (priced at 4.8 million Yen). Furthermore, the top-of-the-line Triton GSR is priced up to 5.4 million Yen, more expensive than the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 which starts at 5.1 million Yen.
The Triton for the Japanese market differs from the model sold in Thailand with its darker tinted rear windows.
