Audi plans to launch a luxury full-size SUV called the Q9 next year to compete with its German rivals, the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7.
Audi is keeping the Q9 project highly confidential as it is considered the most important project for the four-ring brand. However, based on a spy shot taken earlier this year, Kolesa has released a rendered image of the flagship SUV’s exterior design.
As the flagship model of the brand, the Audi Q9 will be larger than the Q7. According to Kolesa’s predictions, the front of the Audi Q9 will feature a larger grille, bigger than that of the X7 but with a more appealing design. The front headlight system will be split into two layers, including daytime running lights located below the hood and the main headlight cluster near the air intakes on either side.
The Q9’s body will have a more sporty style than its competitor, the BMW X7, thanks in part to its sloping roof and angular D-pillars.
At the rear, the taillights of the Audi Q9 will have a blocky design, connected by a horizontal light strip that extends across the trunk and integrates with the side creases, creating a harmonious and seamless overall look.
In terms of performance, the Audi Q9 is expected to be equipped with multiple hybrid powertrain options, including both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Additionally, a high-performance version with a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine may also be introduced.
