On February 25, 2024 – VinFast, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Vietnam, officially broke ground for its first integrated electric vehicle factory in Tamil Nadu, India, bringing employment opportunities for about 3,500 local workers. The construction of the factory in the world’s third largest automobile market also reaffirms VinFast’s strength and strong commitment to global transportation greening strategy.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister of Industry, Government of Tamil Nadu; Mr. V. Arun Roy, Minister of Industry, Member of Parliament for Thoothukudi Constituency; Members of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, senior officials and representatives of the state government, as well as VinFast leaders in India.

The integrated electric vehicle production plant covers an area of ​​160 hectares and is located in the industrial park of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (SIPCOT) in Thoothukudi, southern Tamil Nadu. The project has a total initial investment of $500 million over 5 years, with an expected production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, creating employment opportunities for 3,000-3,500 people. In addition to enhancing collaboration with leading global suppliers, VinFast also plans to promote localization and contribute positively to local economic growth.

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, General Director of VinFast India, said: “The groundbreaking ceremony of VinFast’s factory in Thoothukudi is a major step towards green and sustainable mobility in India. India is one of the key markets in VinFast’s global expansion plan. The investment in building a factory in Tamil Nadu not only captures opportunities from the world’s third largest automobile market but also affirms VinFast’s global presence, complementing its manufacturing ecosystem worldwide, including its existing factory in Vietnam, the ongoing factory in the USA, and the planned factory in Indonesia.

In addition to the factory establishment, VinFast also plans to establish a nationwide dealership network to build brand awareness and quickly connect with customers across India.
