The D-segment sedan segment is no longer popular in the Vietnamese market due to the strong rise of SUVs, pickups, and MPVs. The decline in this segment was somewhat reflected in the sales figures in January 2024, with only the Toyota Camry selling over 100 units.

Table of D-segment sedan sales in January 2024 (in units):

Toyota Camry: 103 units

In January 2024, Toyota sold only 103 units of the Camry in Vietnam, a drop of 57.9%. However, as with every month, the Toyota Camry continues to dominate the D-segment sedan market. It is the only model in the segment to achieve sales of over 100 units in the first month of 2024.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is currently available in Vietnam in 4 different versions, with prices ranging from 1.105 to 1.495 billion VND. Although not cheap, this model is popular among Vietnamese consumers due to its reputable brand, elegant design, and a wide range of engine options.

Specifically, the Toyota Camry in Vietnam offers 3 engine options, the most in the segment. Firstly, there is a 2.0L gasoline engine with a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 206 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox. Next is a 2.5L gasoline engine, which generates a maximum power of 207 horsepower and a peak torque of 250 Nm, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain with a combination of a gasoline engine, electric motor, and CVT gearbox, producing a total output of 264 horsepower.

In addition, the Toyota Camry also features the active safety technology package Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes advanced features such as lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent headlights. The higher-end versions of the car also come with 8 sensors and a 360-degree camera.

Mazda6: 50 units

Compared to its fellow countryman Toyota Camry, the Mazda6 had a lower decline in sales, reaching 43.1% with only 50 units sold. In January 2024, the Mazda6 surpassed the Kia K5 and climbed to the second position in the segment. However, the gap between the Mazda6 and the “king” Toyota Camry is still quite large and difficult to fill in the foreseeable future.

Mazda6

With prices ranging from 779 to 914 million VND, the Mazda6 is currently the cheapest model in the D-segment sedan market. In addition to its attractive price, this model features a sleek and sporty exterior design, characteristic of the Mazda family, along with a range of convenient and safety features comparable to its competitors.

Specifically, the Mazda6 features a blind-spot warning system, cross-traffic alert when reversing, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, and 6 airbags. If equipped with the advanced i-Activsense package, the car will have additional features such as integrated radar cruise control, collision warning, front/rear smart brake support, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and smart brake support (SBS).

Under the hood, the Mazda6 is available with two gasoline engine options: the SkyActiv-G 2.0 and SkyActiv-G 2.5, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0L engine produces a maximum power of 154 horsepower and a peak torque of 200 Nm, while the 2.5L engine delivers 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque.

Kia K5: 34 units

The Kia K5 had the highest percentage decrease in sales among D-segment sedans in the past month, with a decline of 70.4%. Its sales in January 2024 reached only 34 units, resulting in a drop to the third position in the segment.

Kia K5

Similar to the Mazda6, the Kia K5 boasts an advantage in terms of price, ranging from 859 to 999 million VND. Alongside its attractive price, this model features a stylish, sporty, and youthful design with a Korean touch. The car’s equipment is also quite extensive, including LED headlights, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power-adjustable passenger seat, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.

Under the hood of this Korean model are two engine options. The first is the Nu MPI 2.0L engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The second option is the Theta-III GDi 2.5L engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, producing a maximum power of 191 horsepower and a peak torque of 246 Nm. The car is equipped with a front-wheel drive system.

Honda Accord: 8 units

The Honda Accord is the only model that experienced an increase in sales in the D-segment sedan market. The model sold 8 units in January 2024, an increase of 14.2%. However, this reverse in sales performance did not help the Honda Accord improve its position in the segment, as it remains one of the least popular cars on the market due to its low sales figures.

Honda Accord

The main reason for the low sales figures of the Honda Accord is its high price, reaching 1.319 billion VND, and the fact that it is only available in one version. To stimulate sales, the Honda Accord is currently being offered with a 50% reduction in registration fees and 1 year of free insurance throughout February 2024.

However, the Honda Accord still has its advantages, such as spacious interior and high driving satisfaction in the segment. The car features a 4-cylinder, turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 260 Nm. This engine is paired with a CVT gearbox and offers Eco and Sport driving modes.

Additionally, the Honda Accord comes with active safety features comparable to its competitors, including collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, automatic adaptive headlights, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
