In April 2023, Porsche issued a recall notice for 489 cars, nearly all of the Carrera GT models sold in the North American market. According to the earlier recall information, the coupling systems on these super cars had been found to be broken. The materials used to manufacture the couplings were not corrosive-resistant enough during usage.

Users were warned not to drive these cars during the repair period to avoid the risk of accidents. However, up to now, nearly a year after the recall campaign ended, owners of the Carrera GT models still cannot drive their supercars as the issue has not been resolved yet.

According to Motor1, when contacting Porsche, a company spokesperson stated that the fixing solution is still not complete and requires more time. It is expected that in the third quarter of this year, the new Carrera GTs can have the warning removed and their owners will be able to drive them on the road again.

So after nearly a year, Porsche has still not found a replacement solution for the couplings in these supercars and continues to let their “million-dollar” customers wait anxiously.

This has faced backlash from the Carrera GT owners’ community in North America. According to them, paying a huge amount of money for a supercar and parking it for nearly a year is unacceptable. In addition, the monthly costs for the car insurance package still apply as usual.

When contacting car insurance companies, the staff there stated that there have been no changes in reducing insurance costs for the Carrera GT models.

In the United States, comprehensive car insurance costs are one of the most expensive expenses that users have to pay annually after purchasing a car. According to Forbes, this fee is not fixed but depends on the owner’s age, gender, place of residence, and type of car used. On average, Americans need to spend over $2,000 per year for comprehensive car insurance. However, for supercars like the Carrera GT, this number will be multiplied several times.
