The Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) has recently announced the sales figures for the third quarter, with a total of 762,152 motorcycles sold in the past three months, representing a 16.3% increase compared to the previous quarter.

When compared to the same period last year, the number of motorcycles sold by VAMM members in the domestic market has increased by 107%, which is more than double the figure of 367,037 motorcycles in the third quarter of 2021.

This result of over 700,000 motorcycles sold is also better than the third quarter of 2020, and only slightly lower than the total sales figure of 831,440 motorcycles achieved by VAMM members in the third quarter of 2019.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year, VAMM has sold a total of over 2.17 million motorcycles. Thus, the average number of motorcycles that Vietnamese people consume per day has nearly reached 8,000.

According to the report, the cumulative sales only record the total sales volume of all 5 VAMM members in the Vietnamese market, not the production volume and does not include the export quantity.

The five VAMM members include Honda Vietnam, Piaggio Vietnam, Vietnam Suzuki, SYM Vietnam, and Yamaha Motor Vietnam.

Earlier, according to a report by the General Statistics Office, the domestic motorcycle production in Vietnam in September is estimated to reach 347,200 units, an increase of 33.9% compared to August.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year, the domestic assembly of motorcycles is estimated to reach 2.36 million units, an increase of 8.8% compared to the same period last year.

Thus, with the domestic supply improving significantly, coupled with the warming market, it is entirely possible to expect motorcycle consumption in Vietnam in 2022 to approach the 3 million mark.

Previously in 2019, the five VAMM members had sold over 3.25 million motorcycles in the Vietnamese market.
