Following the success of the McLaren Artura hybrid supercar, McLaren has recently introduced a convertible version of this model called the Artura Spider.
This is also the first time McLaren has officially produced a convertible supercar powered by a hybrid drivetrain.
Accordingly, the McLaren Artura Spider is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 700 horsepower and a maximum torque of 720 Nm. Compared to the previous Artura coupe version, the Spider variant has an increased power of 19 horsepower while the torque remains the same.
Combined with this hybrid drivetrain is the 8-speed SSG gearbox with an electronic limited-slip differential, using an electric motor for reverse gear, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds, with a top speed limited to 330 km/h. In pure electric mode, the car can travel up to 33 km.
The Artura Spider is equipped with 4 driving modes: Electric, Comfort, Sport, and Track. In addition, the car is also equipped with carbon ceramic brake discs, Proactive Damping Control (PDC) electrically adjustable suspension system with 3 modes of Comfort, Sport, and Track.
According to McLaren, the Artura Spider still uses an aluminum and carbon frame structure like the Coupe version, but improves the stiffness while reducing the weight of this part by about 62 kg. Therefore, the dry weight of the car is now only about 1,475 kg.
In general, the exterior design of the McLaren Artura Spider does not have many changes compared to the hardtop version. The front of the car stands out with large air intakes, accompanied by the distinctive designed lighting cluster of McLaren. The sides have air intakes to cool the mid-mounted engine.
Meanwhile, the rear end of the car impresses with a diffuser with multiple air vents, accompanied by a dual exhaust system located in the center, and LED taillights placed horizontally on both sides.
Due to the change in roof, the Artura Spider has a redesigned pillar, incorporating a polycarbonate layer to improve rear visibility and direct airflow into the engine compartment.
The rear seat backrest cover can be raised and lowered through a button to improve comfort when closing the roof from above or enhance the exhilarating sound sensation from the V6 engine when the roof is up. The position of the engine air intakes is also relocated further back.
The roof of the Artura Spider can be folded in just 11 seconds, 3 seconds faster than the Ferrari 296 GTB.
Users can choose from a variety of exterior and interior trims for the car, such as carbon fiber or the dark elements of the Stealth package.
Regarding the interior, customers purchasing the McLaren Artura Spider can choose from 3 design styles: Performance, TechLux, and Vision, with an additional price of about 6,400 USD (157.7 million VND).
To focus on the driver’s experience, the car’s cabin is designed to be minimalist with: bucket racing seats, a steering wheel without integrated function buttons, a small display showing essential driving information, and a standard 5-speaker audio system. Users can also upgrade to the premium Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker sound system for a better driving experience.
It is worth mentioning that the McLaren Artura Spider has a starting price from 281,008 USD (about 6.92 billion VND). In Vietnam, the coupe version is being officially distributed with prices starting from 14.69 billion VND.
