The recently spotted heavily camouflaged prototype of the new Kia EV3 has been caught testing in snowy conditions in Sweden, confirming that the production model will closely resemble the concept.
Spy photographers have caught two prototypes of the EV3, in silver and blue exterior colors, each with different alloy wheel sets. Both prototypes already closely resemble the production version, promising an imminent official launch. The new electric SUV from Kia is expected to be unveiled around 2024 with a modern design and advanced technological features.
The overall design largely resembles the concept version with vertically positioned LED headlights. Some features have been toned down from the concept version including slightly smaller wheels, larger mirror caps, more conventional plastic claddings around the wheel arches, and visible door handles.
Moving inside, the car is equipped with a digital cockpit with a dual screen setup and a minimalist design for the dashboard. We can also see a range of control buttons below the infotainment screen, toggle switches for climate control, and various other buttons on the raised center console. Based on Kia’s strategy, we can expect the use of sustainable materials around the cabin.
Similar to all electric models from Hyundai and Kia, the EV3 will be developed on the E-GMP platform. However, to cut costs, Kia may equip the EV3 with 400V technology instead of the more expensive 800V technology found in its larger siblings. The base EV3 is likely to have a single electric motor and a 58 kWh battery pack. Additionally, there’s a high chance the car will be offered in a premium GT version.
Kia has announced a target price range of $30,000 to $80,000 for its electric models, with the EV3 expected to be priced closer to the lower end. Competitors for the EV3 in Europe will include the Peugeot E-2008 and Ford Puma-E.
