Mitsubishi Xforce Premium: Leading the Segment in Experiences.

After more than a month since its launch, Mitsubishi Vietnam organized a test drive for the Xforce model at Dai Nam race track, and the version we had the chance to experience was the Premium. The car was put to the test with various driving modes including Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud.

Smooth and Stable Operation

In the first test drive, we drove the car on a roundabout road, which was wet to allow us to feel the difference between Normal mode and Wet mode.

In the first two laps in Normal mode, the car felt slightly slippery and had a slight loss of grip, even though the AYC active cornering control system was working. When we switched to Wet mode, the AYC system intervened more aggressively in the steering system than in Normal mode. This increased stability while cornering by applying brakes at slipping positions. At the same time, the throttle sensitivity decreased, the steering became tighter, and the torque distribution improved, helping the car to corner smoothly and safely.

Mitsubishi also reinforced the joints and added load-bearing parts at the rear of the car to increase torsional rigidity and improve driving performance. Combined with the retuned suspension system and increased track width and caster angle at the front suspension, as well as larger size and improved shock absorbers at the rear suspension, the car’s maneuverability and handling were significantly enhanced.

Mitsubishi used the same 1.5L engine as the Xpander, but the CVT transmission was tuned to suit each driving mode. In the acceleration test with five people on board, the Xforce accelerated quite well. When crossing 50 km/h, the CVT transmission provided feedback as if it had gears. For a sportier and more exhilarating experience, you can use the DS driving mode located on the gear lever.

On the off-road and rough road tests, while using the Gravel driving mode, the AYC system helped the car to corner smoothly, providing the driver with a sense of stability and grip. With a ground clearance of up to 222 mm, the Xforce easily handled difficult terrain from ascending and descending slopes to slanted roads.

Technological and Ergonomic Features

The Mitsubishi Xforce still features the familiar Dynamic Shield design language, with more modern and sporty details. The T-shaped headlights, trapezoidal grille, and black diamond patterns give the car a more eye-catching appearance compared to other models in the same segment. The LED daytime running lights are also larger and symmetrical with the turn signals, while the fog lights are located below the front bumper.

At the rear, the taillights are designed similarly, with the turn signals hidden within them. The Premium version offers a two-tone color scheme with a black painted roof and the largest 18-inch alloy wheels in its segment.

The interior space of the Xforce stands out with an 8-inch display screen behind the steering wheel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display showing coordinates, tilt angle, direction, and illustrations based on the driving modes. The car also features a driving score mode, which sets standards for driving skills and helps the driver improve their driving skills. The Xforce is also equipped with Apple Carplay/Android Auto connectivity, ambient interior lighting, electronic parking brake, and dual-zone automatic air conditioning.

In the Premium version, the seats are upholstered in leather, while the dashboard area is covered with melange fabric that is resistant to dirt and easy to clean. During our experience, we tested this by pouring coffee on it and wiping it with a wet cloth. The result showed that the fabric is easy to clean and does not retain any color. One advantage of this model is that it has many small compartments, optimizing space and convenience in real-world usage.

Overall, the Mitsubishi Xforce offers similar equipment to other models in its price range in addition to some unique options. It is promising to be an ideal car for customers in the B-segment crossover market.
