The MG brand has recently introduced the latest generation of the MG3, which is positioned as the smallest model in the brand’s product lineup. This small hatchback has received significant upgrades in terms of design and technology, and is now equipped with a new self-charging hybrid powertrain, delivering a total output of 192 horsepower.

The hatchback is designed in Shanghai, following the style of the larger MG5 and MG7 sedans, with a more aggressive front fascia and sharp body lines.

With a length of 4,113 mm, width of 1,797 mm, and height of 1,502 mm, the new MG3 is slightly longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor. Thanks to the increased dimensions, the 2024 MG3 offers a more spacious cabin and a luggage compartment with a capacity of 293 liters, larger than the Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

The car features a fully digital cockpit, including a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and offering navigation features. The safety equipment includes the MG Pilot ADAS system with functions such as adaptive cruise control.

Unlike its predecessor that only used a conventional combustion engine, the 2024 MG3 is only available in a self-charging hybrid version. The Hybrid+ powertrain system includes a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 101 horsepower and an electric motor generating 134 horsepower, a 1.83 kWh battery pack, and a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is offered with 3 driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Sport mode, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds.

In terms of the chassis, MG engineers have added new “ultra-high-strength components” and a new suspension system, bringing improvements in handling, refinement, and NVH compared to the previous MG3.

The new MG3’s competitors, including the Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, and Honda Jazz, are also equipped with self-charging hybrid systems.

MG has not announced the price for the new model, but it is expected to have a starting price of around 20,000 British pounds (approximately 25,500 USD) in the UK.
