The official website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States has recorded a series of incidents related to the windows of the Honda HR-V during winter. Immediately after in the Consumer Reports test, the windows of the cars shattered while being heated.
The glass shards quickly flew out and fell into the passenger compartment, posing a risk of injury to occupants. This has raised concerns among many car owners in the market as the United States is experiencing winter and snow is falling in most places.
Although no recalls have taken place, Honda Motor has affirmed that it will soon take measures to improve this situation. According to Carscoop, the main cause of the problem may be related to the defrost system in the Honda HR-V in the US market.
“During the assembly process, the glass adhesive may have stuck to the defrost component, causing the glass to weaken when this function is activated. We are looking for replacement components and plan to start repairs from April this year,” a Honda representative shared with the press.
Initially, many believed that this issue would only occur in models in extremely cold environments such as the northern United States. However, on January 23, a car owner in Las Vegas stated that while driving on the highway, the HR-V’s window also suddenly shattered with a loud bang.
This has led the NHTSA to believe that the automaker should quickly initiate a recall to ensure the safety of users. However, until now, Honda has only provided small announcements regarding the warranty and replacement of glass windows for affected cars.
