In major cities in the United States such as New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, many drivers have been trying to avoid hefty fines for speeding. According to Carscoop, just in the second week of January, drivers in New York managed to evade over $100 million in fines thanks to illegal devices.
A Washington DC driver was arrested on January 19th for failing to pay 292 speeding tickets, totaling $20,000, including $14,600 in bridge fees and over $5,100 in fines. According to authorities, the driver had been using flipping license plates similar to the ones seen in the “007” movies.
On the George Washington Bridge, police spotted a BMW speeding without a visible license plate. Therefore, the officers requested the driver to pull over for inspection. Through the investigation, local authorities discovered that the BMW was equipped with a sliding plate system that concealed the license plate at the driver’s command.
Aside from the $20,000 fine, the BMW driver also faced several charges including theft of service, forgery of government documents, and possession of burglary tools.
The situation of evading speeding fines on the George Washington Bridge is alarming, as in just one day in January 2023, police recorded 21 cases of evading fines with various crafty measures. Among them, one individual was stopped by the police and found evidence of evading speeding fines totaling $57,000.
