As one of the most popular models in the Australian market, the Kia Sportage has recently been expanded with a new hybrid variant, called the HEV.
Powering the Sportage HEV is a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 177 horsepower and a peak torque of 265 Nm. This engine works alongside an electric motor with 59 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined output of 227 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The powertrain is similar to the larger Sorento Hybrid and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The power figures of 227 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque are more than enough for a compact urban SUV, and users will be pleased to know that this model is also very fuel-efficient, with a combined fuel consumption of 4.9L/100 km.
In the Australian market, the 2024 Kia Sportage hybrid is available in 2 variants. The base variant is the SX FWD Auto, priced from $30,400 USD. The car comes standard with a steel spare tire, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a digital-analog instrument cluster, fabric seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
