Similar to other segments, the B-segment sedans also witnessed a significant decline in sales in February 2024. Almost every popular model in this segment experienced a decrease in sales, except for the Honda City.

B-segment Sedan Sales in February 2024 (unit: vehicles)

Honda City: 640 units

As mentioned above, the Honda City is the only model in the B-segment sedans to achieve positive sales growth. Specifically, Honda sold 640 City cars to Vietnamese customers in February 2024, an increase of 32.7%. Thanks to this performance, the Honda City surpassed its competitors and secured the number one position in the B-segment sedan market.

Honda City

The impressive sales result of the Honda City may be partly attributed to the discount programs offered by Honda. In late February 2024, this model was offered a 100% registration fee waiver for the L and G variants, equivalent to a value of 56-59 million VND. Additionally, Honda also provided a cash rebate of 30 million VND for these two variants, bringing the total discount value to 86-89 million VND. The highest-end RS variant of the Honda City received a 50% registration fee waiver and 1 year of comprehensive insurance.

The fact that the Honda City is the best-selling model in the segment is quite impressive considering its price. Excluding the Volkswagen Virtus, the Honda City is actually the most expensive model in the B-segment sedan market, with prices ranging from 559-609 million VND for three variants.

Similar to the Toyota Vios, the Honda City received an update during its lifecycle in 2023. In the new version, the car is equipped with the standard Honda Sensing active safety technology package – a feature that its competitors, the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent, lack. Additionally, the car also received another important upgrade, which is rear disc brakes.

Hyundai Accent: 365 units

The rise of the Honda City has pushed the Hyundai Accent down to second place in the segment. In February 2024, this model only sold 365 units, a decrease of 60.1%. However, if we consider the cumulative sales for the first two months of 2024, the Hyundai Accent is still the best-selling model in the segment.

Hyundai Accent

Despite not receiving updates in terms of features or design for a long time, the Hyundai Accent remains popular in Vietnam. The strength of this model lies in its attractive design, sufficient convenience features, and reasonable prices, ranging from 426.1-542.1 million VND for four variants.

Some notable features of this Korean car include an 8-inch infotainment screen, 6 speakers, automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, a smart trunk, automatic headlights, and a remote start feature.

Under the hood, the Hyundai Accent is powered by a 1.4L MPI petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 100 horsepower and a peak torque of 132 Nm, combined with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Mazda2: 250 units

The third-ranked model in the B-segment sedans in February 2024 is not the Toyota Vios, but the Mazda2. This model achieved a sales figure of 250 units, a decrease of 32.7% compared to the previous month.

Mazda2

Among the B-segment sedans, the Mazda2 currently has one of the most affordable prices. In March 2024, the Mazda2 is offered at prices starting from 420 million VND after discounts. The 1.5 Luxury variant is priced at 499 million VND.

In addition to its price advantage, the Mazda2 also features a highly regarded design. Furthermore, it is one of the few models in the segment equipped with safety features such as Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The Mazda2 is powered by a 3-cylinder 1.5L Skyactiv-G petrol engine, generating a maximum power of 110 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.

Toyota Vios: 170 units

February 2024 saw the decline of the “national car” Toyota Vios, with sales figures only reaching 170 units and ranking fourth in the segment. Compared to January 2024, the sales of this Japanese model has decreased by as much as 73.9%. This also represents the highest decline rate among the B-segment sedans.

Toyota Vios

In early March 2024, Toyota adjusted the listed prices of the Vios to the range of 458-545 million VND, instead of the previous range of 479-592 million VND. This new price is expected to help the Toyota Vios regain its momentum in the B-segment sedan market.

Since the mid-2023 facelift, this model has experienced fluctuating and unstable sales figures. One possible reason for the decline in popularity of the Toyota Vios is its controversial design in the updated version.

However, the Toyota Vios also offers additional features such as LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, new 15-inch alloy wheels, sportier seats, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, USB Type C ports for rear passengers, 7 airbags, Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA).

The engine of the Toyota Vios is still a 4-cylinder in-line petrol engine, with a displacement of 1.5L, producing a maximum power of 107 horsepower and a peak torque of 140 Nm as before. This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Mitsubishi Attrage: 67 units

Rounding out the top five in B-segment sedan sales in February 2024 is the Mitsubishi Attrage with sales figures of 67 units, a decrease of 55.3%. The low price and official discount programs have not been able to improve the appeal of this Japanese model. In March 2024, Mitsubishi is still offering a 50% registration fee waiver for the Attrage.

Mitsubishi Attrage

The Mitsubishi Attrage has the lowest price in the segment, ranging from 380-490 million VND. However, the design, convenience features, and safety equipment of the Attrage are relatively basic compared to its competitors.

Under the hood of the Attrage is a 3-cylinder 1.2L MIVEC petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 77 horsepower and a peak torque of 100 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an INVECS continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine of the Mitsubishi Attrage is considered weaker compared to its rivals in the same segment.

Kia Soluto: 19 units

Similar to most other models in the B-segment sedans, the Kia Soluto experienced a sharp decline in sales in February 2024. Kia only sold 19 Soluto cars in Vietnam, a decrease of 52.5%. Not only ranking at the bottom of the segment, the Kia Soluto was also included in the 10 worst-selling cars in the Vietnamese market in the previous month.

Kia Soluto

Similar to the Mitsubishi Attrage, the Kia Soluto’s biggest advantage is its price, ranging from 386-482 million VND. However, this Korean car has some weaknesses such as uninspiring exterior design, relatively basic convenience features, and safety equipment.

The Kia Soluto is powered by a 4-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1.4L, producing a maximum power of 94 horsepower and a peak torque of 132 Nm. The engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suzuki Ciaz: 0 units

The Suzuki Ciaz continues to be the lowest-performing model in the B-segment sedans in February 2024. In that month, no units of this model were sold. From the beginning of the year until now, there have been only 3 buyers for this model.

Suzuki Ciaz

In February 2024, Suzuki offered a 50% registration fee waiver and 0% interest for 6 months, with a total discount value of 45 million VND for the Ciaz. However, this promotion has not been able to convince Vietnamese customers to buy the car.

In addition to its unimpressive design, the Suzuki Ciaz has the drawbacks of having only one variant and a price of 534.9 million VND. However, the car features a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder petrol engine with an average consumption of 5.79 liters/100 km, making it suitable for running as a service car.

Under the hood of the Suzuki Ciaz is a 4-cylinder 1.4L petrol engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, producing a maximum power of 91 horsepower and a peak torque of 130 Nm.
