SUV B-segment sales in February 2024 (units: cars)

Honda HR-V: 282 cars

Similar to January 2024, in the past month, the Honda HR-V continued to dominate the B-segment SUV category with sales of 282 cars. However, compared to the previous month, its sales decreased by 64.7%, the highest decline in the segment.

Honda HR-V

The continuous rise of the Honda HR-V to the top of the B-segment SUV segment may come as a surprise. The reason is that the HR-V has a higher price compared to its competitors such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, or Mazda CX-3. Perhaps the 50% discount on registration fees offered by Honda for the HR-V during the first 2 months of 2024 has played a role in its success.

With prices ranging from 699 million to 871 million VND, the Honda HR-V is highly regarded for its exterior design in the B-segment SUV category. In addition, it offers a relatively spacious interior, sufficient convenience features, and standard ADAS active safety features. Moreover, its engine and driving experience are also strong, similar to other Honda models.

The Honda HR-V in Vietnam is currently available in two engine options. The standard version uses a naturally aspirated 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum output of 119 horsepower and a peak torque of 145 Nm. The other two versions are equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L petrol engine with respective power outputs of 174 horsepower and 240 Nm.

Hyundai Creta: 238 cars

In February 2024, the Hyundai Creta climbed to the second position in the B-segment SUV category, surpassing its sibling, the Kia Seltos. Specifically, this Korean model had sales of 238 cars, a decrease of 42.3% compared to the previous month.

Hyundai Creta

In early March 2023, Hyundai adjusted the listed selling prices of the Creta, which now range from 599 million to 699 million VND, replacing the previous range of 640 million to 740 million VND. Thanks to this adjustment, the Hyundai Creta becomes one of the most attractive SUVs in the B-segment. This price adjustment is expected to improve its sales in March 2024.

In 2023, the Hyundai Creta was the best-selling B-segment SUV in Vietnam. However, in the first 2 months of 2024, this model has continuously lost its momentum and sold fewer vehicles compared to its competitor, the Honda HR-V.

The strengths of the Hyundai Creta lie in its compact and fashionable design, convenient interior, and a wide range of safety features. Additionally, it uses a Smartstream 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum output of 115 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm. The engine is combined with an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) and front-wheel drive.

Kia Seltos: 202 cars

The Kia Seltos ranked third in the B-segment SUV category in terms of sales in February 2024. The model achieved sales of 202 cars, a decrease of 61.4% compared to January 2024. However, when considering the cumulative sales in the first 2 months of this year, the Kia Seltos stands at the second position in the segment, behind the Honda HR-V.

Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos offers the highest number of variants in the B-segment SUV category, with a total of 8 different options. Its price range is also competitive, from 604 million to 714 million VND.

Similar to its sibling, the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos features a trendy and modern exterior design. However, the model has not received any significant design and equipment upgrades in the Vietnamese market for a while.

The Kia Seltos in Vietnam is available with two petrol engine options: a naturally aspirated 1.6L engine with a maximum output of 121 horsepower and a peak torque of 151 Nm, and a turbocharged 1.4L engine with power outputs of 138 horsepower and 242 Nm. The engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Toyota Yaris Cross: 119 cars

The fourth position in the B-segment SUV category belongs to the Toyota Yaris Cross. In February 2024, Toyota sold 119 Yaris Cross cars in Vietnam, including 91 petrol versions and 28 hybrid versions.

Toyota Yaris Cross

The difference in sales between the two versions of the Toyota Yaris Cross is evident. This is not surprising as the petrol version has a significantly lower price than the hybrid version while offering similar features. The biggest difference between the two versions lies in the engine.

The petrol version uses a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 105 horsepower and a peak torque of 138 Nm. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT-i). Meanwhile, the hybrid version features a 1.5L petrol engine with a maximum output of 90 horsepower, an electric motor with a peak power of 79 horsepower, and a lithium-ion battery.

The Toyota Yaris Cross is priced from 650 million to 765 million VND.

Toyota Corolla Cross: 106 cars

Immediately following the Yaris Cross is its sibling, the Toyota Corolla Cross, taking the fifth position in the B-segment SUV category. In the past month, the vehicle sold 106 cars, a decrease of 35.3%.

Toyota Corolla Cross

In reality, the low sales figures of the Toyota Corolla Cross are not due to a lack of demand but rather a shortage of stock at dealerships. The upgraded version of this B+ segment SUV is scheduled to be officially launched in May. Dealerships have started accepting deposits for the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross.

Similar to the Honda HR-V, the Toyota Corolla Cross does not have a price advantage, with prices ranging from 760 million to 955 million VND. However, it compensates with a reliable brand, practicality, fuel-efficient engines, spacious dimensions, and a relatively roomy interior in the segment.

The Toyota Corolla Cross is available with two engine options. The first is a 1.8L petrol engine combined with a continuously variable transmission (CVT-i), generating a maximum output of 140 horsepower and a peak torque of 172 Nm. The second is a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 1.8L petrol engine with a maximum output of 97 horsepower, an e-CVT transmission, and an electric motor with a maximum power output of 72 horsepower and a peak torque of 163 Nm.

Mazda CX-30: 78 cars

The Mazda CX-30 is the only model in the B-segment SUV category that experienced sales growth in February 2024. With sales of 78 cars, it saw a staggering 188% increase compared to the previous month, surpassing its sibling, the CX-3, in terms of sales.

Mazda CX-30

Compared to the CX-3, the Mazda CX-30 features a more stylish exterior design, a wider range of convenience and safety features, and more powerful engines. The “heart” of this model is a naturally aspirated 2.0L SkyActiv-G petrol engine, delivering a maximum output of 153 horsepower and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The engine is paired with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Mazda CX-30 is priced higher than the CX-3, ranging from 699 million to 739 million VND. In March 2024, customers purchasing the Mazda CX-30 will receive a discount of up to 20 million VND, with the price after the discount being 679 million VND.

Mazda CX-3: 67 cars

The Mazda CX-3 is the last model in the B-segment SUV category, with modest sales of only 67 cars. Compared to the previous month, the sales of this model decreased by 52.4%.

Mazda CX-3

The Mazda CX-3 is one of the most affordable B-segment SUVs in Vietnam, with prices ranging from 534 million to 654 million VND for 4 versions. In March 2024, the model will have a promotional price, starting at 529 million VND.

Although affordable, the Mazda CX-3 has not gained much popularity in Vietnam due to its unremarkable design and tight interior space. The convenience features are adequately equipped, but it does offer some active safety features from the i-Activsense package, such as blind-spot warning, rear collision warning, and driver attention alert.

The engine of the Mazda CX-3 is a SkyActiv-G 1.5L petrol engine, delivering a maximum output of 110 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with a sport mode and front-wheel drive.
