On the afternoon of June 13, according to information from Ba Ria Hospital, the patient is Mr. P.D.P., 40 years old, residing in Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. Before being admitted to the hospital, Mr. P. received first aid and stopped the bleeding.

After receiving emergency treatment and consultation, the patient was taken directly to the operating room. The severed hand was carefully preserved in a box before that.

During the surgery, the doctors combined the wrist bones, sewed up the wrist joint. At the same time, the blood vessels and nerves were also sewn back together. The entire wrist tendons and five fingers were connected and the wound was covered with stitches.

After nearly 5 hours of surgery, the patient’s severed hand has been reattached. The fingers are warm, flexible, and perform normal movements.

The doctors at Ba Ria Hospital said that luckily, the patient took full advantage of the golden time of emergency treatment and applied advanced techniques in surgery.

At present, the patient is conscious and in stable health. The hand is slightly swollen and the wound has dried.

Based on this case, the doctors recommend that if unfortunate accidents result in limb detachment, it is necessary to apply direct pressure to the severed stump (the part still attached to the body) and bandage the injured limb.

The severed part must be wrapped in clean cloth and put into a plastic bag, then placed in a cool box (avoid direct contact with the cold ice). The patient should be transferred to the hospital as soon as possible.

If left for too long, the golden time for limb reattachment will be shortened. This leads to ineffective surgery results and may even result in the irreparable loss of the limb.
