Toyota has confirmed that they are researching versions of the bZ4X, including a GR-badged variant with impressive off-road capabilities.
This information has been confirmed by Mr. Masaya Uchiyama, the chief engineer of the bZ4X project. Mr. Uchiyama revealed that 3 versions of the Toyota bZ4X are being developed, including a budget version, a GR flagship, and a GR Sport version focused on off-road capabilities. Among them, Mr. Uchiyama is particularly interested in the GR Sport version.
According to Toyota’s chief engineer, the bZ4X GR Sport could inherit similar improvements as the Hilux GR Sport sold in Australia. Although the Hilux GR Sport did not receive full upgrades to become a heavy-duty off-road model, this version of the Hilux has a more powerful engine, improved chassis, and aesthetic updates.
With a range of notable improvements expected to be implemented on the bZ4X GR Sport, Mr. Uchiyama is confident in the vehicle’s performance. He even hinted that the bZ4X is a better off-road vehicle than the Land Cruiser “in certain cases” due to its ability to provide better instantaneous torque.
