Suzuki Corporation has signed a collaboration agreement with SkyDrive to manufacture flying cars at the company’s factory in Shizuoka. The project is expected to start in the spring of 2024.
The Suzuki flying car model falls under the category of eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing). This type of aircraft uses electric power to take off and land vertically, similar to a helicopter.

Thanks to the use of electric power, the advantage of eVTOL over traditional combustion engine aircraft is its quiet operation, higher efficiency, and less environmental pollution. Due to its vertical take-off and landing capabilities, eVTOL flying cars are suitable for urban environments as well as locations with limited space.
However, due to their high mobility, eVTOL aircraft also face many legal issues related to usage and regulations. Controlling a flying device is not as straightforward as driving a car.
SkyDrive is an aerospace manufacturer based in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The SkyDrive eVTOL product has a square size of 13 x 13 meters and a height of 3 meters. The cockpit can accommodate 3 people, including one pilot.
The battery on this flying device allows for a maximum operating range of about 15 km, with a top speed of up to 100 km/h.
