Subaru Forester 2024 Debuts with STI Edition and New Features
In Japan, the Subaru Forester has received a 2024 update, including the new STI Edition variant with a sporty dark-themed interior.
The exterior of the SUV remains unchanged since its mid-cycle refresh in 2021. However, Subaru aims to keep buyers interested with new equipment and special editions. For the 2024 model year, Subaru introduces the Subaru Forester STI Sport Black Interior Selection special edition.
Based on the STI Sport grade introduced in 2022, the new variant features a darker interior theme, combining Nappa leather seats with silver stitching and piano black accents.
Additionally, the STI Sport Black Interior Selection can be combined with the exclusive Offshore Blue Metallic exterior paint color. However, it does not receive any powertrain upgrades over the lower variants, still using the 1.8-liter turbocharged boxer engine with 175 horsepower. Nevertheless, it does get STI-tuned dampers, enhancing its handling.
Another highlight of the 2024 Subaru Forester is the Geyser Blue exterior color, exclusive to the X-Edition and XT-Edition variants. It is a similar shade used on the U.S.-spec Subaru Forester Wilderness and makes its Japanese debut on the XT-Edition in late 2022.
Both the X-Edition and XT-Edition come with water-repellent seat upholstery, durable cargo floor mats, and black interior accents. The key difference is that the Forester X-Edition has the 2.0-liter e-Boxer hybrid powertrain, while the XT-Edition features the more powerful 1.8-liter turbocharged engine. All Forester variants come as standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
Prices for the 2024 Subaru Forester in Japan start from 3,069,000 yen ($20,040). As for the special editions, the X-Edition starts from 3,377,000 yen ($22,051), the XT from 3,432,000 yen ($22,411), and the STI Sport Black Interior Selection from 3,850,000 yen ($25,137).
This could be the last year for the fifth-generation Subaru Forester on sale in Japan. The sixth-generation model could be introduced in its home market in 2025, following its debut in North America.
