2025 Honda CR-V: Unveiling the Hydrogen-Powered Variant

The Honda CR-V has just been unveiled with a new zero-emissions version, but unlike the vast majority of new SUVs, it won’t run on pure electric power. The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV will be the first model in America to combine a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain with plug-in charging capability and an accompanying battery pack.

This setup allows the car to run for a maximum distance of 435 km, less than pure electric vehicles, hybrids… However, the highlight of the CR-V model is the ability to charge and travel a distance of about 47 km from the battery pack, thereby minimizing the impact of the still-poor hydrogen infrastructure.

Besides, the two-way charging function also allows users to use the battery to power electronic devices, camping equipment, and small household appliances through a 110V socket with a capacity of 1,500 W.

In addition to the unique powertrain, Honda engineers have made several adjustments to the chassis and suspension of the 2025 CR-V e:FCEV to accommodate the increased weight compared to hybrid and internal combustion engine versions.

In terms of exterior design, the 2025 CR-V e:FCEV differs from other versions of the CR-V line thanks to some unique accents. The front end has been redesigned with a new, thinner grille and larger air intakes.

Rounding to the rear, the new taillights have clear lenses and the tailgate features an e:FCEV badge. The charging port is mounted on the front fender, while the hydrogen fuel filler is located on the rear fender.

Honda offers the CR-V e:FCEV exclusively with the highest Touring equipment package, which comes standard with all the amenities. Features include a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a hands-free power liftgate, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a variety of ADAS features from the Honda Sensing suite.

The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV is manufactured in Ohio (USA) and will initially be leased in California starting later this year.
