According to the latest scenes from Bugatti, the French hypercar manufacturer will no longer use the 8.0L W16 engine that was first introduced on the Veyron in September 2005, and continued to be used on the Chiron from March 2016.
Specifically, in the latest teaser, Bugatti has shown the image of the all-new V16 engine. The automaker said that after 8 years of launching the Chiron, this engine will “set a new peak in the automotive industry”. Accompanying this engine is the slogan “Pour l’éternité” (for eternity).
Some sources say this is an 8.3L naturally aspirated V16 engine manufactured by Cosworth. Others say that this V16 engine will be combined with 3 independent electric motors, producing more than 1,800 horsepower. Bugatti has not confirmed any information about this mechanism.
This is not the first time Bugatti has introduced an engine that is unique compared to other brands. Previously, the automaker introduced the Bugatti 18/3 Chiron and Bugatti EB 218 concepts, which were both equipped with a 6.3L W18 engine.
The V16 engine has been used on many models such as the 1930 Cadillac V-16 and the Cadillac Sixteen concept that was launched in 2003. Some other famous models were also equipped with this engine such as the Rolls-Royce 100EX, Devel Sixteen, BMW 7 Series Goldfisch, Cizeta-Moroder V16T…
After expanding cooperation with the Bugatti Rimac joint venture, the brand’s new model will be a completely different version compared to its predecessors, the Veyron and Chiron. This will also be the final product of Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt. Future models will be designed by a new team led by Frank Heyl.
The Bugatti Rimac joint venture will officially launch this new model in June 2024. However, the delivery time may start from 2026, as current models such as the W16 Mistral and Bolide are in the production and delivery phase to customers.
