The joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz is soon bringing a new car to the market, namely the Denza Z9 GT. Some teaser pictures of the model have already been released ahead of its anticipated production launch later this year.

Denza — the joint venture between BYD and Mercedes — has been in existence for over a decade, starting out with a 50:50 shareholding arrangement. However, Mercedes subsequently reduced its stake to only 10%, leaving BYD with the remaining 90%. Denza sold 10,279 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 123% compared to the same period last year, and the Z9 GT promises to boost sales even further.

Official images show that the new Denza will have quite a sleek design language, not unlike the Porsche Taycan and Panamera Sport Turismo. The front fascia is dominated by sharply angled headlights and two large air intakes.

The bodywork looks relatively simple with none of the unnecessary curves, creases, and hard design lines that plague so many vehicles on the market these days. The rear features what appears to be a full-width LED taillight, a steeply raked rear windshield, and a roof spoiler.

Interestingly, Denza chose to show a camouflaged Z9 GT prototype in Europe, not on the streets of China. This could be a sign that Denza is aiming to rival models in the European market.

Denza even shared images of the Z9 GT prototype testing alongside a Porsche Panamera and a Ferrari GTC4Lusso.

In line with all other Denza models, the Z9 GT will boast an electrified powertrain, though it’s not yet known whether it will be a plug-in hybrid or an EV. The car is scheduled to make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25, and a sedan version is also likely on the cards.
