BYD’s upcoming pickup truck, codenamed the Shark, will debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. The design of the vehicle draws heavily on the Ford Ranger and Ford F-150 Lightning, featuring C-shaped LED headlights and a horizontal grille spanning the front from left to right, with a large BYD logo in the center.
The rear features LED taillights following the contours of a traditional pickup truck but augmented by an LED light bar running across the tailgate from left to right. The C-pillar on the body of the car uses a black strip to continue the lines of the side window glass.
Inside the cabin, the car features a large 15.6-inch central display that is expected to have a portrait orientation like other BYD models. The center console has a central armrest for both the driver and front passenger. The interior is accented with orange trim and stitching. There are physical buttons or controls separate from the screen.
Powering the BYD pickup is expected to be the DM-i Plug-in Hybrid, a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine that works with two electric motors, front and rear. When combined, the engine and electric motors produce a maximum of 496 horsepower (PS), all-wheel drive (AWD), and plug-in charging capabilities. The rear suspension, from leaked images, is an independent multi-link coil spring setup, rather than traditional leaf springs.
The BYD Shark pickup truck is expected to debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show in late April.
