Classic Car Owner’s Distraction Leads to Vehicle Submersion

As the owner of the Packard Coupe stepped out to capture a 'pride and joy' photograph against a backdrop of picturesque scenery, little did they know that their actions would have far-reaching consequences.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 9, police and fire forces in Riverside County, California, USA were asked to help retrieve a vintage Packard Coupe. Upon arrival, they found an American classic drifting on the surface of the Canyon Lake with its owner looking distraught.

Talking to the authorities present at the lake, the owner said he had brought the classic car to Canyon Lake to… take pictures. However, when he went outside to start his work, the car gradually drifted down and finally “settled” under the lake in the helplessness of the owner.

Continuing to talk to those present, the owner said he considered the 1939 Packard Coupe as a child in the family and that it was his “pride and joy”.

A tow truck was then called in to recover the car before a third party was called in to pump and clean up the oil spilled into the lake. The exterior of the car after being salvaged was confirmed to be undamaged but it was difficult to say the same for the machinery and interior.

The Packard Coupe (full name Packard Business Coupe) is one of the most famous car lines of Packard. This is one of the first American car manufacturers to appear (1899) but later disappeared in the middle of the last century when it could not keep up with the times.

A 1939 Packard Coupe is valued at around $25,000 to $40,000 (625 million to 1 billion VND) depending on quality. However, it is not easy to find such a classic car still in circulation on the market, not to mention that the crashed car is the owner’s “favorite”.

Even the process of restoring the car to its original condition is very difficult, especially in the transmission area. The coupe is now 85 years old and the Packard brand has long since disappeared, so “genuine” replacement parts are no longer available.

If there are no technical problems, the only possibility that the classic car rolled down the lake is because the owner forgot about P and pulled the handbrake.

Soviet Minister’s Car Shines Bright After Rebirth

Over time, especially since the country opened up in the 1990s, Soviet cars have gradually disappeared to be replaced by Japanese, American, and European cars. Soviet cars slowly drifted away and became a nostalgic reminder of a generation that has gone through two wars.
