The Yangwang U9 has a price tag of 1.68 million yuan (US$233,000) in the Chinese market, which is more than US$100,000 higher than expected.
The Yangwang U9 comes with four electric motors, which are individually mounted on each wheel, producing a combined output of 1,306 horsepower and 1,680 Nm of torque. The vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds, reaching a top speed of 309 km/h.
The Yangwang U9 is more than just a powerful and high-performance vehicle. It is the first Chinese car to feature a carbon fiber unibody structure, along with BYD’s unique DiSus-X suspension system that allows the car to ‘bounce’, giving it the ability to move on three wheels. Additionally, due to its four-motor setup, the car has the ability to perform tank turns.
The U9 utilizes BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology; with an 80 kWh capacity, it provides a claimed range of 450 km (based on CLTC standards).
The car features an 800V architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 500 kW, along with dual-charging capability, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80% in just 10 minutes.
In terms of design, the Yangwang U9 boasts a captivating sporty coupe style with sharp and angular body lines. The LED daytime running lights have a striking design, and the sizable rear spoiler complements the 21-inch wheels, which enhance both the aerodynamic efficiency and the imposing appearance of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the interior of the U9 has a minimalist design with advanced display screens. The driver is greeted by a 10.25-inch mini-LED digital instrument cluster, while another 12.3-inch mini-LED vertical touchscreen serves as the infotainment system. The vehicle features a 127-color interior ambient lighting system and a 12-speaker Dynaudio Evidence Platinum sound system.
