Honda Unveils New Ye EV Brand for Chinese Market

Shortly after revealing its new Zero electric vehicle sub-brand for the global market, Honda has unveiled a new Ye-branded EV lineup specifically for China. The new Ye brand (which means “shining in Chinese”) will debut at the Beijing Auto Show next week and will initially consist of the P7 and S7 SUV models as well as the GT Concept sedan.

All three new models appear much closer to production form than the 0 Space Hub and Saloon concepts. That’s not surprising given that the P7 and S7 are set to go on sale later this year. The two electric SUVs share a similar overall shape, featuring a rakish rear windshield and a thick D-pillar reminiscent of the China-only Avancier and UR-V models.

The differentiation comes in the design details of the front and rear fascias, particularly the headlights and taillights, which are full-width. However, the P7 features C-shaped lighting elements while the S7 has unique X- and H-shaped graphics front and rear, respectively.

Other shared features include flush-fitting door handles and side-view cameras. Unlike previous Honda EVs, the charging ports are located on the front fenders rather than up front.

Inside, the P7 and S7 feature a similar cabin to the e:N1 with a large, portrait-oriented touchscreen, a higher-set instrument cluster, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Other features include an AI-based voice control system and ambient interior lighting. No powertrain details have been announced yet, but the Japanese automaker has confirmed that the P7 and S7 will be offered with rear- and all-wheel drive.

The GT Concept, meanwhile, previews a new sedan that’s due out in late 2025. The sedan has a sportier design with X-shaped lighting elements similar to the S7.

Inside, the GT Concept features red accents, a unique steering wheel, and a multitude of screens, including one on the center console and one for the front passenger. Honda says the design is intended to provide occupants with a “mobile theater” experience.

Honda says it plans to introduce six Ye models by 2027, and when combined with the e:NP1 and e:NS1 (the Chinese-market version of the e:N1), the company will have launched 10 EVs in China by then. It’s not yet clear what the remaining two models will be, but Honda has set a goal of becoming an EV-only brand in China by 2035.
