The Suzuki Jimny is currently sold in both a three-door and five-door configuration, but what if a dual-cab pickup variant was added to the mix? Graphic designer Theophilus Chin has penned a rendering of a Jimny-based pickup that evokes the boxy Jeep Gladiator but in a smaller, more budget-friendly package.
Specifically, the digital render is based on the long-wheelbase five-door Suzuki Jimny. However, the wheelbase has been stretched even further to accommodate a full-size pickup bed mounted on a ladder frame chassis.
The rear overhang is also significantly longer than the standard model, adding several inches to its diminutive footprint. For reference, the five-door Jimny has a length of 3,985 mm (156.9 in), making it shorter than many subcompact hatchbacks.
The design of the pickup bed draws inspiration from the larger Jeep Gladiator, as evidenced by the prominent taillights and the integrated step in the rear bumper, which features embossed Suzuki lettering on the tailgate. While the rest of the body remains largely unchanged, the rear doors have been modified to accommodate the wider fenders that no longer have to clear the wheel arches.
Since the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny debuted in 2018, the pint-sized off-roader has inspired a number of real-world and digital pickup conversions, but none have come from the automaker itself. If Suzuki were to introduce a Jimny-based dual-cab pickup, however, a more powerful powertrain would certainly be required.
The current naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter gasoline engine is good for 103 hp (77 kW) and 134 Nm (99 lb-ft) of torque. Those figures may not be sufficient for the demands of hauling and towing. The Suzuki Jimny is expected to receive a mid-cycle update in 2024, which could coincide with the introduction of mild-hybrid and fully electric powertrain options, at least in Europe.
