In a Xiaomi technology showroom in Guangzhou, China, the SU7 electric vehicle was displayed with the standard version and the Max version attracting consumers to experience it. According to Xiaomi’s announcement, the company received a total of 88,898 orders for the SU7 within 24 hours after its launch. Test drives have been held since last weekend in China at 59 dealerships, attracting the interest of many users. The deposit that customers had to pay to reserve a place is 5,000 yuan (USD 850).

The Xiaomi SU7 will be assembled by BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co., a subsidiary of BAIC, at Xiaomi’s new plant in Beijing. Interestingly, BAIC is also the largest shareholder of Mercedes-Benz, owning 9.98% of the German automaker’s shares.

Xiaomi’s new plant started construction in April 2022 and was completed in June of last year. Xiaomi applied for a sales license for the SU7 in November and trial production at the plant started in December. According to the company, mass production of the SU7 has begun, but has not yet reached full speed and deliveries to customers will start at the end of April.

The Xiaomi Beijing plant has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles in the first phase, which will be increased to 300,000 vehicles in the second phase. As production has not yet reached full capacity, Xiaomi will only have 8 months of full production in 2024, meaning that it could produce around 100,000 this year. The company received around 90,000 orders in the first 24 hours and has not released any further figures since then, but it is almost certain that 48 hours after its launch, the number of orders had exceeded 100,000 units.
