Xpeng’s booth at Bangkok 2024 dazzled with an array of enticing electric vehicle models. Among them, the Xpeng G9 electric SUV demands attention.

First unveiled in November 2021 at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the Xpeng G9 is built on the Chinese automaker’s Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA) 2.0. It measures 4,891 mm in length, 1,937 mm in width, 1,680 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.

In China, the Xpeng G9 is available in five variants, with prices ranging from 263,900 to 359,900 yuan (approximately $38,000 to $51,000). The 570 Pro and 570 Max variants both come equipped with a 78.4 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC-rated range of 570 km.

The ‘570’ variants are rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor that produces a maximum power output of 308 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. This enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 200 km/h.

Next in line are the 702 Pro and 702 Max variants, which share the same motor configuration and performance as the ‘570’ variant but boast an extended range of up to 702 km thanks to an increased battery capacity of 98 kWh.

Topping the range is the 650 Max version, which features dual electric motors and an all-wheel-drive system, resulting in a combined output of 543 horsepower and 717 Nm of torque. With this power, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in an exhilarating 3.9 seconds, although the top speed remains the same as the other variants. With fast-charging technology, the Xpeng G9 can replenish its battery from 10-80% in approximately 20 minutes.

Inside the cabin, the vehicle boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and dual 15-inch displays. Buyers will also find an advanced voice assistant that can respond within milliseconds, control over 600 vehicle functions, and understands “consecutive instructions from different passengers without the need for constant re-activation.”

Other highlights include a 28-speaker sound system and a “5D immersive experience that includes seat vibration, ambient lighting changes, adjustable air-conditioning, and custom scents when watching movies, listening to music, or simply relaxing.”

On the technology front, the XPeng G9 comes equipped with the second-generation Advanced Driver Assistance System, which comes with 31 sensors, a forward-facing camera, and dual LiDAR sensors.

In terms of practicality, the G9 features a five-seat configuration with a standard boot capacity of 660 liters, which can be expanded to 1,576 liters when the rear seats are folded down in a 60:40 split. There’s also a 71-liter front trunk for additional storage.

Xpeng has emphasized that the G9 was “purposefully designed” with international markets in mind, so it’s likely that the vehicle will eventually make its way to other markets, including Vietnam, in the near future.
