Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 Now on Sale in Japan

The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado made its global debut in August 2023, and after more than half a year, the mid-size SUV is finally on sale in its domestic market of Japan.

In the Land of the Rising Sun, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 will be known by its own name, the Land Cruiser 250 Series. Described as the core model of the Toyota Land Cruiser lineup, the off-roader will be sold alongside its siblings, the Land Cruiser 300 Series and 70 Series.

Compared to its predecessor, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 focuses more on ruggedness than luxury. Meanwhile, the task of providing a luxurious ride for occupants falls to its elder sibling, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series.

Unsurprisingly, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 for Japan shares the same exterior design as its North American and European counterparts. Built on the TNGA-F platform, the vehicle measures 4,925 x 1,980 x 1,870 mm (193.9 x 78 x 73.6 in) in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm (112.2 in). Compared to the outgoing model, it is 100 mm (3.9 in) longer, 95 mm (3.7 in) wider, 20 mm (0.8 in) taller, and has a 60 mm (2.4 in) longer wheelbase.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 for Japan is different from its North American and European counterparts in terms of its engines. Specifically, the vehicle does not offer any hybrid powertrains in the Land of the Rising Sun. Instead, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 in Japan comes with two engine options that are quite familiar to Vietnamese customers.

The first is a 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces a maximum power output of 201 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The second is a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates a maximum power output of 163 horsepower and a peak torque of 246 Nm (182 lb-ft). This engine is mated to a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission.

Both engines are currently used in the Toyota Fortuner sold in Vietnam. The two engines will be paired with a full-time 4WD system that features a Torsen LSD center differential and an electronic rear differential lock. Additionally, the vehicle comes with six drive modes and a multi-terrain monitor system supported by four external cameras.
