The current generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been on the market since 2018, so the German automaker has recently debuted a refreshed version of the SUV model in order to keep it appealing to customers. The 2025 G 550 and G 63 models have been unveiled with an array of technology and design improvements, while also providing more personalization options via the Manufaktur division.
Styling-wise, the car retains the distinctive boxy shape that has been a characteristic of the G-Class for 45 years since its inception. The front fascia features a softer, more rounded design for the air intakes on the G 550 and a more angular, aggressive look on the high-performance G 63. The round headlights and the turn signals positioned above them remain familiar G-Class design cues.
The rear of the car remains unchanged, keeping the same taillight design, spare wheel carrier, and rear bumper. However, the three-pointed star brand has added an optional new multi-spoke wheel design for the G 63 AMG, giving it a more striking and sporty appearance.
The most significant change comes in the powertrain department. Specifically, the Mercedes-Benz G 550 swaps its V8 engine for a turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 unit, which is paired with a hybrid system that contributes an extra 20 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. As a result, the total system output of the car stands at 443 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque. Compared to the outgoing model, the power output has increased by 27 horsepower but torque has decreased by 50 Nm. The car continues to use a 9-speed automatic transmission, along with three locking differentials and a low-range transfer case.
In contrast, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 2025 does not see any changes in terms of performance despite the adoption of hybrid technology. According to the German automaker, the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine in this SUV model still produces 577 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. The car’s 0-97 km/h acceleration time is rated at 4.2 seconds, which is 1.1 seconds quicker than the G 550.
Additionally, the G 63 AMG gains an upgraded Active Ride suspension system, which improves the ride quality during urban driving and cools the brake discs even when operating in off-road mode.
The hybrid technology applied to the G-Class is expected by Mercedes-Benz to enhance the driving experience while also reducing fuel consumption.
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 has undergone some minor changes. The dual screens behind the steering wheel retain their configuration, but the central infotainment screen has been upgraded to a touchscreen unit. The SUV also gains wireless phone charging, 11.6-inch touchscreen displays for the rear seat passengers, and a new steering wheel design that is shared with other models in the German automaker’s lineup.
Pricing for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 550 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 has not been announced yet, but it is estimated that they will start at around $150,000 (equivalent to 3.72 billion VND) and $190,000 (equivalent to 4.71 billion VND), respectively. In Vietnam, the G 63 AMG was previously priced at over 10 billion VND when sold by the official distributor and over 12 billion VND when imported privately. This model is very popular, with sales reaching hundreds of units, including a number of limited editions.
