Karim Habib, Kia’s global head of design, said at the K4’s debut: “The all-new K4 is our attempt to project the sedan into the future and illustrates our belief that style and substance can continue to co-exist in a sedan package. And now we are thrilled to show you what’s next – the K4 as a five-door hatchback, a body style geared toward active, urban lifestyles.”
Details are still slim at this point, but Kia did confirm to Motor1 that the car will be sold in the United States, and it will follow the sedan on sale. From these first teasers, it looks like there are few major changes compared to the sedan. Aside from the obvious reshaping of the roofline and rear to turn the sedan into a hatchback.
While it’s unclear whether the Kia K4 hatchback will share its powertrain options with the sedan, we know the K4 sedan is offered with a choice of two engines. The base 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four produces 147 horsepower (110 kilowatts) and 132 pound-feet (179 Newton-meters) of torque. There’s also a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder rated at 190 hp (142 kW) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque.
Inside, the K4 hatchback should get the same large curved display that houses the infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with voice-activated assistants, over-the-air updates, and more…
