The C-segment sedan is one of the segments that shows the improvement of the Vietnamese car market in March 2024. The reason is that all models in this segment have increased in terms of sales. However, there is a C-segment sedan that is in the top 10 worst-selling cars in the market, which is the Toyota Corolla Altis.

C-segment sedan sales table March 2024 (unit: car)

Mazda3: 350 cars

The number 1 position in the C-segment sedan segment in March 2024 continued to belong to the Mazda3. Accordingly, this model achieved sales of 350 units, an increase of 49.5%.

Mazda3

The appeal of the Mazda3 stems from many factors such as its sleek and beautiful exterior design, full range of amenities and safety features, and affordable price ranging from 579 – 739 million VND for 4 versions. In fact, the Mazda3 is currently one of the cheapest C-segment sedan models in Vietnam.

For that price, customers will receive a model with features such as a full LED lighting system, 16 – 18-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable/auto-folding/auto-dimming/position memory rearview mirrors, leather seats, power driver’s seat/position memory, 8.8-inch central touch screen, 8-speaker sound system, multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, head-up display (HUD), sunroof, electronic parking brake, auto brake hold, automatic 2-zone climate control, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Unfortunately, this model’s engine is quite inferior to its competitors. The Mazda3 only has one type of engine, which is the SkyActiv-G 4-cylinder 1.5L petrol engine with a maximum capacity of 110 horsepower and a maximum torque of 146 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and a GVC Plus advanced acceleration control system.

Kia K3: 272 cars

Similar to previous months, the Kia K3 also ranked second in the C-segment sedan segment in terms of sales, behind the Mazda3. In March, this model sold 272 units, an increase of 159%. Compared to the “segment king” Mazda3, the Kia K3 has a higher growth rate, but in terms of sales, it is still significantly lower.

Kia K3

Like the Mazda3, the Kia K3’s advantages lie in its price, design, and amenities. It’s just that this C-segment sedan lacks the ADAS active safety features compared to its competitors.

In return, the Kia K3 has up to 3 engine options for buyers to choose from. The first is a 1.6L petrol engine with a maximum capacity of 126 horsepower and a maximum torque of 155 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the version. Next is a 2.0L engine with a maximum capacity of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The third is a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine with a maximum capacity of 201 horsepower and a maximum torque of 265 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Kia K3 is currently distributed in Vietnam with 5 versions and prices ranging from 549 – 739 million VND.

Hyundai Elantra: 149 cars

In March 2024, Vietnamese people bought 149 Hyundai Elantras, equivalent to a growth rate of 96%. Thanks to that, this Korean model maintained its position at number 3 in the segment.

Hyundai Elantra

As a model in the same group as the Kia K3, the Hyundai Elantra also has competitive advantages such as design, equipment, and a variety of engines. The Hyundai Elantra has 3 engine options: first is the 1.6L Gamma II petrol engine, delivering a maximum capacity of 128 horsepower and a maximum torque of 155 Nm, mated to an automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. Next is the 2.0L Nu engine, generating a maximum capacity of 159 horsepower and a maximum torque of 193 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Finally, there is the 1.6L turbocharged engine in the N-Line version, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, delivering a maximum capacity of 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 265 Nm.

Other amenities include LED headlights, hands-free power trunk, automatic wipers, flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, 10-way power leather seats, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch central touch screen, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, wireless phone charging, and 6 speakers.

The Hyundai Elantra’s current price ranges from 599 – 799 million VND for 4 versions.

Honda Civic: 97 cars

March 2024 was also a successful business month for the Honda Civic as sales grew by 130.9%. This is the model with the second highest sales growth rate in the segment, after Kia K3.

Honda Civic

Compared to the 3 aforementioned competitors, the Honda Civic has a significantly higher price, ranging from 730 – 870 million VND for 3 versions. In April 2024, the Honda Civic will be offered a discount of up to 100% on the special consumption tax. Therefore, customers can save from 73 – 87 million VND when registering their cars.
