In March 2024, the SUV D segment in Vietnam witnessed a consistent sales growth. The ranking of the models remained largely unchanged compared to the previous month, with Ford Everest leading the way and Isuzu MU-X “closing” the list.

SUV D Segment Sales March 2024 (unit: vehicles)

Ford Everest: 899 units

In recent times, the SUV D segment in Vietnam seems to have been divided into 2 halves, including the Ford Everest and the remaining models. March 2024 was no exception.

Last month, Vietnamese people bought a total of 899 Ford Everest units, an increase of 156.1% compared to February 2024. With this result, the Ford Everest not only topped the SUV D segment but also entered the top 10 best-selling car models in the entire market. In fact, the Ford Everest’s sales even exceeded the combined results of its competitors in the same segment.

In April 2024, the Ford family member was supplemented with a new version called Platinum. Positioned as the highest-end version of the Ford Everest line, Platinum has a more luxurious design and equipment. Thus, the Ford Everest currently has a total of 6 versions and prices ranging from 1.099 – 1.545 billion VND.

The Ford Everest is popular in Vietnam thanks to its modern, eye-catching design, spacious 7-seater interior, convenient amenities, and outstanding safety features. In addition, there are 2 diesel engine options with a capacity of 2.0L.

The first is a single-turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum capacity of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 405 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a twin-turbocharged diesel engine, producing a maximum capacity of 210 horsepower and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is only available for the higher-end versions.

Hyundai Santa Fe: 258 units

Similar to other Hyundai brand models, the Santa Fe also had a more successful business month with sales results reaching 258 units, an increase of 95.4%. With this result, the Korean model maintained its 2nd place in the SUV D segment.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is distributed in Vietnam with 5 versions and prices ranging from 1.029 – 1.369 billion VND. In this April 2024, the car is being discounted by the manufacturer by 50 million VND for the 3 versions of 2.5 Gasoline, 2.2 Diesel, and 2.2 High-end Diesel. Meanwhile, the 2.5 Gasoline High-end version has been reduced by 75 million VND. The corresponding preferential level of the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is 100 million VND.

In addition, the Hyundai Santa Fe also possesses the typical characteristics of a Korean car, such as a fashionable design, convenient amenities, and safety features that are adequate for its price range. The variety of engine options is also an advantage of this model.

The first is the 2.5L Smartstream Theta III gasoline engine, which delivers a maximum capacity of 180 horsepower and a maximum torque of 232 Nm, combined with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission. The second is the Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine, which provides a maximum capacity of 202 horsepower and a maximum torque of 440 Nm, paired with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Finally, there is the hybrid drivetrain, which combines a 1.6L turbocharged SmartStream gasoline engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine produces a maximum capacity of 180 horsepower and a maximum torque of 265 Nm. The corresponding figures for the electric motor are 44.2 kW, which is equivalent to nearly 60 horsepower. It is accompanied by a battery with a capacity of 1.49 kWh (270 V, 5.5 Ah) and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Fortuner: 211 units

In March 2024, the Toyota Fortuner rose to 3rd place in the SUV D segment in terms of sales, surpassing the Mazda CX-8. Specifically, this model sold 211 units, an increase of 145.3%.

Back in January of this year, Toyota applied some notable changes to this SUV D model. As such, the car had 2 versions cut, leaving only 5 versions while the price dropped from 63 – 120 million VND to 1.055 – 1.35 billion VND. In addition, the Toyota Fortuner was also supplemented with some upgrades such as a 9-inch central touchscreen, supporting wireless connection to smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Not inferior to its competitors, the Toyota Fortuner also has a variety of engine options. The first is a 4-cylinder, 2.4L diesel engine that delivers a maximum capacity of 147 horsepower and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The corresponding figures for the 4-cylinder, 2.8L diesel engine are 201 horsepower and 500 Nm. Finally, there is a 4-cylinder, 2.7L gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 164 horsepower and a maximum torque of 245 Nm. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, or 4WD four-wheel drive.
