In March 2024, Vietnam’s automotive market showed signs of rebounding growth. The cumulative sales of VAMA members in the month reached 27,289 units, an increase of 135% compared to February 2024. This was due to the fact that February 2024 coincided with the Lunar New Year holiday, which typically results in very low sales. However, compared to the same period last year, sales still decreased by 9%. Including TC Group’s sales results, Vietnamese consumers purchased a total of 31,831 vehicles in March.

The recovery of Vietnam’s auto market in March 2024 was evident in every segment, most notably in the C-segment SUV category. In March 2024, all C-segment SUV models experienced increased sales.

C-segment SUV sales figures for March 2024 (unit: vehicles)

Mazda CX-5: 912 units

The number one position in the C-segment SUV segment in March 2024 continues to belong to the Mazda CX-5. In the past month, this model achieved sales of 912 units, representing a growth of 52%. This is the lowest growth rate among models in the C-segment SUV segment. However, this indicates the stability in the sales volume of the Mazda CX-5.

Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 is currently one of the models with the most attractive selling prices in the C-segment SUV segment in Vietnam. However, in this April 2024, distributor THACO is still applying a slight discount to the CX-5 for sales promotion, bringing the price down to between VND 749 million and VND 979 million.

Apart from its selling price, the Mazda CX-5 is also the top choice of Vietnamese consumers when purchasing a high-ground vehicle due to its market-friendly design, convenient amenities, and comprehensive safety features. It also offers two petrol engine options with 2.0L and 2.5L capacities. Depending on the version, the vehicle will be equipped with either front-wheel drive or an AWD all-wheel drive system.

Honda CR-V: 649 units

The model with the highest growth rate in the C-segment SUV segment last month was the Honda CR-V. Specifically, this model achieved sales of 649 units, an increase of up to 303.1% compared to the previous month. Of which, 467 units belong to the gasoline engine version and 182 units are hybrid.

Honda CR-V

With its strong growth, the Honda CR-V has risen to second place in the segment, surpassing the Ford Territory and only behind the Mazda CX-5. This result was partly due to the incentive program of 100% exemption from the registration fee for the 2WD G and L versions of the vehicle. In addition, the G version of the Honda CR-V is also rewarded with a cash gift of VND 30 million, bringing the total discount value to VND 141 million.

The Honda CR-V is currently the model with one of the highest selling prices in the C-segment SUV segment, ranging from VND 1.109 billion to VND 1.31 billion. However, this model is still favored due to its prestigious brand, sportier design, and more modern amenities and safety features.

Particularly, the Honda CR-V is also a rare model in the C-segment SUV segment in Vietnam that is equipped with a fuel-efficient hybrid engine, along with the Haval H6. Specifically, the CR-V’s hybrid version uses a 4-cylinder, 2.0L petrol engine with an output of 146 horsepower. The engine combines with two electric motors with a combined output of 181 horsepower. In total, the vehicle has an output of 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 335 Nm.

Meanwhile, the gasoline engine version of the vehicle is equipped with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine with a maximum output of 188 horsepower and a maximum torque of 240 Nm, as before. The engine is mated to a CVT automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Ford Territory: 602 units

The third-ranked model in the C-segment SUV segment is the Ford Territory with sales of 602 units, an increase of 173.6%. However, this American model has dropped to third place in the segment due to the rise of the Honda CR-V.

Ford Territory

In April 2024, the Ford Territory is being offered with a discounted price, ranging from VND 799 million to VND 929 million. Compared to the listed price, the discounted price is reduced by VND 20 million to VND 25 million. With this, the Ford Territory has narrowed the price gap with its rivals in the segment such as the Hyundai Tucson and the Mazda CX-5.

The Ford Territory boasts highlights such as a modern and imposing design, a spacious interior, and a diverse range of amenities and safety features. The model is equipped with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, producing a maximum output of 160 horsepower and a maximum torque of 248 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Hyundai Tucson: 294 units

Similar to its rivals above, the Hyundai Tucson also had a more successful sales month, achieving sales of 294 units, representing a 151.2% growth. However, this is still not enough to help the Korean model improve its ranking in the segment.
