Xiaomi recently announced that it received a total of 88,898 orders for the SU7 within 24 hours of its launch. Customers were required to pay a deposit of 5,000 yuan ($850) to secure their reservation.
Xiaomi received a total of 88,898 orders for the SU7 within 24 hours of its launch.
The Xiaomi SU7 will be assembled by BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co., a subsidiary of BAIC, at Xiaomi’s new manufacturing facility in Beijing. Interestingly, BAIC is also a major shareholder of Mercedes-Benz, owning 9.98% of the German automaker.
Xiaomi SU7 has attracted considerable attention from Chinese consumers.
Xiaomi’s new factory, which began construction in April 2022 and was completed in June last year, will produce the SU7. Xiaomi filed for a sales license for the SU7 in November, and trial production at the plant commenced in December. According to the company, mass production of the SU7 has begun, albeit not yet at full capacity, with customer deliveries scheduled to start from the end of April.
In its initial phase, Xiaomi’s Beijing factory has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, which will increase to 300,000 vehicles in its second phase. Since production is yet to reach full capacity, Xiaomi will only have eight full months of production in 2024, allowing it to manufacture approximately 100,000 units this year.
The company received close to 90,000 orders within the first 24 hours and has not released any further figures since then, but it is almost certain that the number of orders surpassed 100,000 within 48 hours of the launch.
In the Chinese market, the Xiaomi SU7 has an enticing starting price of just 215,900 yuan, which translates to $29,900 (approximately $740 million).
This places it as an attractive option for consumers, with a price tag that undercuts the Tesla Model 3 by over 30,000 yuan (approximately $105 million). Impressively, despite its lower price, the SU7 boasts a minimum driving range of 700 km, surpassing the Tesla’s 606 km range in China. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun proudly proclaimed that their sedan outperforms the Model 3 in 90% of benchmark tests.
Measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, the SU7 will be offered in three variants. The entry-level Standard version, priced at $29,900, is a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration. It features a 400V platform, a 73.6 kWh battery, and is powered by a 295 horsepower electric motor with 400 Nm of torque. It delivers a CLTC driving range of 700 km and can charge up to 350 km in just 15 minutes.
The mid-tier model, known as the SU7 Pro, shares a similar 400V architecture but comes with a larger 94.3 kWh battery. It retains the same 295 horsepower RWD motor as the Standard variant. With an extended CLTC driving range of 830 km, it starts at $34,000 (approximately $850 million).
The top-of-the-line SU7 Max boasts an 800V architecture and a 101 kWh battery pack, coupled with dual electric motors generating a combined output of 663 horsepower and 838 Nm of torque. This performance-oriented variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds, reaching a top speed of 265 km/h. It offers a maximum CLTC driving range of 800 km and has a starting price of $41,500 (approximately $1.03 billion).
