Mercedes has recently confirmed that its first electric G-Class, based on the EQG concept, will debut on April 24 alongside a slew of new models at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show. However, that won’t be the German carmaker’s only all-electric SUV, as it is also developing a new, smaller G-Class.

According to Carscoops, the baby G-Class is not expected to ride on the MMA platform that will underpin the likes of the CLA-Class, but rather on a different architecture that will use “modules from Mercedes’ larger, rear-wheel-drive vehicles.” This suggests that the smaller G-Class will be more capable off-road than the GLB, which was originally dubbed the “baby G.”
Styling-wise, the yet-unnamed G-Class will likely take design cues from its larger sibling. Until Mercedes officially unveils the new model, we can preview the smaller G’s design through a series of renderings from Carscoops.
The digital artists have integrated new styling details, such as a blacked-out bumper and fender extensions, to give the SUV’s body a more cohesive appearance. While the baby G-Class still retains the rugged styling, we can see that its design features slightly more rounded edges.

The baby G will also reportedly be offered with a choice of two different grilles: one that’s traditional and one that’s more modern and inspired by the EQG concept. As a result, the vehicle is instantly recognizable as a member of the G-Class family, yet it has been updated to appeal to a younger audience.
The interior is also likely to draw inspiration from the latest G-Class facelift, blending luxury with high-tech features such as the dual-screen setup and the MBUX infotainment system.

While Mercedes has confirmed the new G-Class, it has yet to reveal when the model will go on sale. However, analysts predict that the German carmaker will begin production of its electric luxury SUV in late 2026 at its plant in Hungary, with the first deliveries scheduled for Q1 2027.
As for pricing, nothing is official yet, but the larger G-Class is one of the most expensive SUVs on the market today, starting at $143,000 in the United States. The baby G will likely have a starting price of no less than $60,000.
