The exterior design alterations for the 2025 Ford Explorer in the Chinese market are significant, while the interior receives a notable upgrade in the form of a larger 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. Ford has also trimmed the SUV’s lineup, and powertrain options are carried over from its predecessor, except for the discontinued hybrid variant.
The most noticeable exterior changes are at the front, where the grille is larger and flanked by slimmer LED headlights and revised air intakes. The taillights retain their shape but feature sharper lighting graphics and extend into the tailgate.
The 2025 Ford Explorer is available in Active, ST-Line, Platinum, and ST trims. Each variant gets a unique grille and different wheel designs to set them apart. While the Timberline variant is not currently part of the lineup, Ford has hinted at introducing a new off-road-focused trim in the future.
New for the 2025 Ford Explorer is the Vapor Blue Metallic paint color, available on all trims except Platinum. The ST variant, moreover, gets the option of a black roof and new 21-inch wheels.
Moving inside, the 2025 Ford Explorer features a dashboard that has been pushed forward, increasing space for the front occupants, while also improving the dashboard layout. The full-width screen setup on the Explorer’s dashboard is specific to the Chinese market.
The vehicle comes equipped with Ford’s new Digital Experience infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and either Google Assistant or Alexa Built-in voice assistant support. Passengers can watch videos or play games on the main screen, while the digital instrument cluster can now display maps.
Ford also says it has improved the quality of materials in the cabin. The American carmaker has further equipped the Explorer with dual wireless charging pads on the center console, along with eight USB-C charging ports and three 12-volt outlets. The 2025 Ford Explorer comes standard with the comprehensive Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ ADAS suite. However, the significant addition is Ford’s BlueCruise system, allowing for hands-free driving on highways.Â
Powertrains remain unchanged on the 2025 Explorer compared to its predecessor. The Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims get the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine making 300 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The ST variant, meanwhile, is powered by a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, producing 400 horsepower and a stout 563 Nm. The more potent V6 engine is now available on the Platinum trim as well.
All variants get a retuned 10-speed automatic gearbox and either rear-wheel drive or optional 4WD. The ST trim additionally gets paddle shifters on the steering wheel. As mentioned earlier, the Explorer Hybrid is no longer a part of the Explorer’s 2025 lineup.
