Hongqi is one of the Chinese auto luxury brands and it also makes products for the defense sector, and even the car for President Xi Jinping to travel in. Its products have a wide range of variety and are officially sold in Vietnam with 2 main product lines: sedan and SUV.

Recently, at the Beijing Auto Show’s opening ceremony, Hongqi has opened its Guoya luxury sedan to pre-order by global users under the new brand of Hongqi Golden Sunflower. This car model was previously called Hongqi L1, and the new name means nation and nobility.

In addition to the Guoya, another three models called Guoyao, Guoli, and Guoyue will soon form the Golden Sunflower fleet under this luxury brand. Golden Sunflower is the representative name for Hongqi’s most expensive and luxurious car models.

The Hongqi Guoya is based on the vehicle design language of the L-Concept. The car’s front end uses a large waterfall-shaped grille ornamented with chrome material while the two round headlights on both sides bring about a vintage feeling. Hongqi’s logo at the center is retractable.

It is worth mentioning that the headlights use DLP technology (digital light processing), which helps the headlights maximize the amount of light on the road and display sharp signs to perform functions like highlighting when pedestrians are crossing the road, and dimming road signs.

Meanwhile, Hongqi confirmed that the design of the taillights was inspired by the shape of “palace lanterns”, and the shape of the decorative strips was taken from the eaves of ancient Chinese palaces.

The Hongqi Guoya has dimensions of 5353/1998/1511 mm, with a wheelbase of 3260 mm. It is available in 4-seater and 5-seater models; and runs on either 19-inch or 20-inch rims. Viewed from the side, the car has a low ground clearance, combined with the two-tone white-red body and the set of thick-spoked rims.

Moving on to the interior, the driving compartment has a symmetrical layout, featuring a full-LCD dashboard, and a large floating central control screen. The steering wheel carries Hongqi’s iconic Golden Sunflower logo. The interior is also decorated with many wood panels, complemented by soft leather upholstery and metal material.

The 4-seater model on display at the Beijing Auto Show has two independent seats in the back row with armrests and cup holders in the center. Furthermore, there is a touch screen in front of the armrest to control functions on the car such as seat heating, massage, and air-conditioning temperature. Other configurations include AR-HUD, face/voice/gesture multimodal interaction mode, and intelligent ambient light adjustment.

Customers have two powertrain options to choose from, the 3.0T plug-in hybrid and the 4.0T plug-in hybrid system, both of which are combined with an 8AT.

The 3.0T engine has a maximum capacity of 290 kW, equivalent to 389 horsepower, and the 4.0T engine has a maximum capacity of 360 kW, about 483 horsepower. Both systems are paired with a 3-layer lithium battery, however, the specific capacity and operating range have yet to be officially announced by Hongqi at this time.
