Jaecoo, Chery’s sub-brand tailored for overseas markets, is slated to enter the UK market by the summer of 2024. The marque’s first model, the Jaecoo J7 – a rebadged version of the Chery Tansuo 06 PHEV, has made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The new car could go on sale in the UK from June 2024 at a starting price of approximately £40,000 (equal to ~RM216k).

Interestingly, earlier this month, Jaecoo announced that its J7 will go on sale in Malaysia starting this April, with both front- and all-wheel drive variants offered. Deliveries are expected to commence in Q3 this year for Malaysian customers.

For reference, the 2024 Chery Tansuo 06 measures 4,538 mm long, 1,898 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,672 mm. Expect the Jaecoo J7 to be similarly sized.

Viewed from the side, the new car sports a floating roof design, along with flush door handles and a set of five-spoke wheels. A panoramic sunroof is also present.

Motivation comes from a plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a 1.6 litre engine and dual electric motors. The mill makes 194 hp and 290 Nm, allowing the century sprint to be completed in eight seconds. Seven drive modes are supported, also including off-road modes. Furthermore, the car is claimed to have a total cruising range of 1,200 km, while its pure electric range is stated to be around 100 km. Chery has yet to confirm exact powertrain details at this time.

Inside, the interior mimics that of the Chery Tansuo 06. There’s a full-width 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 14.8-inch vertical centre touchscreen and a D-shaped steering wheel. Level 2 advanced driver assist systems are also present, with features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and blind spot detection. Other niceties include heated seats, ventilated seats and a cooled centre console.

In 2023, Chery exported 937,148 units year-on-year, reflecting a 101.1% increase.
