Unveiled amidst the Beijing Auto Show 2024 in China, domestic car manufacturer Chery has launched its latest automotive offering – the Omoda 7. Described as a sporty coupe-style SUV, the Chery Omoda 7 is expected to appeal to a wide range of car buyers.
In comparison to the Omoda 5 currently available in the market, the Chery Omoda 7 boasts larger dimensions. Specifically, the vehicle measures 4,621 mm in length, 1,872 mm in width, and 1,673 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. These dimensions place the Chery Omoda 7 within the C-segment SUV category, where it will compete against the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson.

The Chery Omoda 7 amalgamates three design concepts: Dynamic, Avant-garde, and Futuristic. The vehicle exudes a bold appearance with a frameless trapezoidal grille at the front, reminiscent of the new-generation Lexus RX. Flanking it are sharp, angular headlamps and a wide central air intake on the front bumper, bearing a striking resemblance to the Omoda E5 electric car.

Furthermore, the Chery Omoda 7 features 20-inch alloy wheels with a multi-spoke, dual-tone machined design, conventional door handles, a rising window line at the C-pillar, and a sloping roofline towards the rear. It also sports a relatively short and steeply raked rear windshield, along with taillights that extend across the width of the vehicle’s rear.

The interior of the Chery Omoda 7 also boasts a number of intriguing elements. Most notably, the steering wheel draws inspiration from the PlayStation 5 video game controller. According to Chery, this steering wheel not only enhances ease of use but also maximizes driving pleasure.

Similar to the steering wheel, the vehicle’s front seats are also designed in the style of gaming chairs. The seats are upholstered in nubuck leather with stitching that conveys a sporty flair.

Additionally, the Chery Omoda 7 boasts a 15.6-inch central touchscreen that can slide laterally and stop in front of the front passenger. This intelligent sliding screen features a 2.5K resolution and a brightness of 1,000 nits. Users can control the display’s functions through gestures, voice commands, or physical buttons.

Other notable features within the Chery Omoda 7 include a fragrance system, a 12+2 speaker Sony sound system, and active noise cancellation technology to minimize engine noise and create a more serene cabin environment.

Furthermore, the vehicle incorporates an electronic parking brake and no less than 18 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) features. Beyond the usual ADAS capabilities, the car also features a voice-activated lane change assist system.
Under the hood of the Chery Omoda 7 lies a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, comprising a 1.5-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder gasoline engine. According to Chery, this powertrain achieves a combined fuel consumption of just 4.89 liters per 100 kilometers and enables the vehicle to travel a total distance of 1,250 kilometers.

In the future, the vehicle will also be available in a conventional gasoline-powered version. This variant is likely to utilize a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine, similar to the one found in the Jaecoo J7. However, unlike the Omoda 5, the Chery Omoda 7 will not have a pure electric EV variant.
It remains unclear whether the Omoda brand plans to introduce this new C-segment SUV to the Vietnamese market for official distribution. According to the current plan, Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands are set to enter the Vietnamese market within this year. Initially, these two brands will offer a total of four models in Vietnam: the Omoda C5, Omoda E5, Jaecoo J7, and Jaecoo J7 PHEV.
