Reuters reported last year that Vietnamese automaker VinFast aims to expand its presence in Asia, including Indonesia, where it has started selling and plans to have a factory by 2026. VinFast made its debut in Thailand at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) 2024, with the VF e34 model set to be the first car offered in the country from June.
VinFast VF e34 spotted undisguised in Malaysia
The VF e34 is the Vietnamese carmaker’s first electric vehicle, having been introduced in 2021, and it appears that the model is set to be launched in Malaysia soon. Automotive website Paultan recently published a photo of a VinFast VF e34 without any camouflage and wearing Malaysian number plates, suggesting that Malaysia could be part of VinFast’s market expansion plans.
In Indonesia, the VinFast VF e34 is powered by a single electric motor that makes 110 kW (147 hp) and 242 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. It uses a 42 kWh battery that provides a claimed range of 318 km on a single charge, suitable for city commuting.
The VinFast VF e34 has a 2,611 mm wheelbase and measures 4,300 mm long, 1,793 mm wide and 1,613 mm tall, with 180 mm of ground clearance.
The car is equipped with a full suite of advanced safety and smart features, geared towards user convenience, such as remote software updates, voice control, automatic diagnostics and vehicle issue alerts, emergency rescue services, battery charging status monitoring, vehicle activity history, theft alerts and user habit memory.
As an urban vehicle that has helped to drive the green transport revolution in Vietnam, the VF e34 is expected to be a smart and dynamic choice, creating a new lifestyle for urbanites and contributing to the development of Indonesia’s electric vehicle market. The first VinFast VF e34 units are scheduled to be delivered to Indonesian customers in Q2 of this year.
VinFast plans to expand to at least 50 countries worldwide in 2024. Besides key markets like the US, Canada and Europe, VinFast is actively expanding into Asian countries such as Indonesia, India, Thailand, the Philippines, as well as the Middle East and Africa. In addition to its home country of Vietnam, VinFast is also building EV manufacturing plants in the US, India and will do so in Indonesia.
