The 2024 Lexus GX gets a new body design that will make it stand out from its predecessors when viewed from the sides, the new GX is reminiscent of the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series.
Lexus’ signature spindle grille works well with the upright design that keeps the front end from looking too droopy compared to the rest of the body. The headlights look sharp with their integrated LED daytime running lights, while the boxy and oversized wing mirrors are in the style of the classic Cruiser.
The rear continues the no-nonsense design but impresses with a full-width LED light bar that combines with the power tailgate that comes as standard on the new GX.
The 2024 Lexus GX is 70 mm longer and 95 mm wider than the previous generation, while the wheelbase has been extended by 60 mm. This luxury SUV now measures 5,005 mm long, 2,117 mm wide, and depending on the choice of tires, it sits between 1,915–1,935 mm tall.
The 2024 Lexus GX will be offered in six trims: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail and Overtrail+. The latter two are new to the range and have been optimized for off-road ability.
Besides the rugged two-tone exterior, one of the most striking things about the 2024 Lexus GX Overtrail is that it comes with 33-inch all-terrain tires that wrap around the standard 18-inch wheels. To keep them within the body, the Overtrail models get muscular looking flared wheel arches, while aluminum skid plates come as standard.
Overtrail+ models, meanwhile, get a more supportive pair of front seats designed for “optimum off-road comfort” and include a massage function as well as extra power adjustment for the driver’s seat.
The new-gen Lexus GX ditches its V8 for a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6. Power from the new engine is rated at 349 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, which is 36 hp and 34 lb-ft more than the old V8. A hybrid powertrain will also be offered.
Inside, the new Lexus GX gets a major interior upgrade that takes design cues from the Lexus RX and LM. The climate control vents have been moved lower down the dashboard to make way for a large 14-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Thankfully, there are still physical buttons for the climate control system and audio.
Seating configurations include seven seats and six seats. The six-seat version features captain’s chairs in the second row. Storage inside includes around 12 cupholders, six USB ports and a 120V power outlet to keep devices charged.
