Haval Jolion: A New SUV Option in Vietnam

According to sources from dealerships, Haval’s new B-segment SUV, the Haval Jolion, is expected to land in Vietnam in April and officially debut in the second quarter of this year. Dealerships are now accepting deposits for the model and promise to deliver it from the beginning of the third quarter.

Haval is a car brand under the Great Wall Motor (GWM) group of China, which appeared in Vietnam in 2022 and officially launched its Haval H6 SUV in 2023. However, the Haval H6 did not achieve as much success as expected due to its relatively high price tag compared to its rivals. In this launch, Haval Jolion is positioned in the B-segment SUV segment, competing with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, or Mitsubishi Xforce.

According to the company’s sales consultant, the Haval Jolion will be imported directly from Thailand with two engine options: gasoline and hybrid. There is still no information about the versions that will be launched in Vietnam. However, if similar to the Philippines and Thailand, the Haval Jolion will be sold in two versions: Sport and Ultra, with identical engine options, only differing in some exterior details such as the grille, rims, or headlights.

In the Philippines market, the gasoline version is equipped with a 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, producing 141 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. This engine is also paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The hybrid version is equipped with a 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. The gasoline engine is paired with an electric motor and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 186 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque.

With dimensions of 4,472 mm x 1,841 mm x 1,574 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, the Haval Jolion will be the most spacious B-segment SUV. Currently, the new B-segment SUV does not have an official price tag, but according to dealerships, the Jolion’s price could range from VND 650-700 million.

Overall, the price of the Haval Jolion will be a key factor, along with its origin, leading Vietnamese people to decide whether to invest in the latest B-segment SUV to enter the market. If the listed price is around VND 700 million, Haval Jolion will face even more obstacles than its segment rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, or most recently, the Mitsubishi Xforce, which has a price tag of only around VND 600 million.
